im trying to install battlefield 2 but keep recieving the cyclic redundancy check error. does anyone know what this means? it happens with a couple of my games. i would relly like soome help here. thanks
ok thanks. i dont understand why im getting this error as the games installed the first time i tried. the disks have a couple of little scratches on them, but nothing major. i noticed on one of those links it says it could be a hardware problem. i asked this on club.cdfreaks.com & someone told me that it was my burner. they said it was because my firmware wasnt up to date. my firmware just now is v1.07 & i have downloaded but not installed the latest version(v3.07). do you think if i installed it, it wouldsolve this? also, how do i upgrade my firmware? i thought i could just install it & that would be it. but someone fromcdfreaks said i have to boot into safe mode & some other things. thanks for the help
In most cases it's the media but sometimes(though much rarer)it's the actual hardware.A firmware update could solve it but may not either,it couldn't hurt anyways since it has some bug fixes.
As far as how to install it,it varies greatly from product to product.I don't know what type of drives you have so I couldn't say for sure but if you go to the manufacturers(of the drive)itself they will have the download with instructions on how to do it.
Keep in mind it may be damaged hardware and not the firmware.

Bios maybe, but safe mode... no I seriously doubt it.I hate when people like this guy give out false advice. The bios, safe mode, normal boot, recovery, etc can all be accessed the same way, from the same screen, that does NOT make them the same thing.Safe mode is for when you get a virus or other problem. It's simply a secure partition on the HDD that will allow you to recover your system. You don't normally install anything in safe mode.
Be careful when messing with the bios or I promise you you'll regret it I cannot stress this enough.Follow the manufacturers instructions and not this nerd from cdfreaks lol.
