I'm using Azureus and had no problems with it when I was home. But now that at college I have been using Peer Gaurdian to help block out the school from knowing I use Azureus to download. The problems is that when I start up Azureus and peer gaurdian, after like 5 mins, my connection is lost and I must restart my computer to get it back. Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to fix this? Thanks!

Peerguardian DOES NOT stop the school from seeing what you're downloading or uploading, so that disconnect is probably caused by a P2P filter kicking in.

Dan would enabling protocol Ecryption help this guy out?
Maybe if the school cant see what your transferring,
Then you wont get disconnected?
Sorry if I am incorrect just trying to help.

Schools have advanced monitoring setup to see what people are doing with their bandwidth, and any sysadmin with half a brain can tell from someone's data pattern what they're doing with their connection.
Encryption might help a little bit, but if there's someone actively monitoring connections they'll always know and will eventually give you a slap on the wrist or ban you from the network altogether.
As for peerguardian, it blocks the bad people from downloading from you and uploading to you, it doesn't obfuscate who you are or what you are doing or anything like that.
(that is a very common misconception about peerguardian)

Oic...so could my school possibly have someone that is one of those "bad people" that upload and download from me that could get me in trouble? Also how does the encryption work? And if its not peer gaurdian what am I doing wrong with Azureus? sorry so many questions.

You seem to miss the point, it's not the programs that are causing this, the school is (obviously) blocking P2P traffic.
There is no (legal) way around this, and i'm not going into a discussion about how to circumvent this kind of thing, as that would be
A)Against forum rules and
B)Would go against my work ethics as a security analyst/auditer.
Btw, with those "bad people" i meant big companies that try to sue everyone they catch uploading their copyrighted material.
As for the encryption in Azureus, check the Wiki that's on the Azureus website for full details on how it works and what it does.

I dont think the school is blocking P2P because when I use Shareaza then it works fine with out problems, Azureus is just better for movies and such...but thanks tho I will look in to the Wiki forums and guides.
