Yeah I like the nintendo revolution name better as well. It sound's cooler I think but after all it is just a name right? Personally I like the symbol like the letters that spell out "Wii".

Maybe it was a little too masculine, agressive, or something along those lines. I think Nintendo wanted a more friendly name that ties in their strategy of "expanding the market".
"Revolution" was a perfect name for how they wanted to change the industry, but it still sort of sounded like the type of name that mostly appeals to stereotypical angsty male teen video gamers, which is what Nintendo did NOT want.
at least, that's my take on the whole situation.

Oh I thought revolution was just a code name because they never had an official name for it and they just called it the nintendo revolution for reference but the name was never official.

its too bad they chose a codename people liked than the offical product name :p
i've got nothing wrong with the name "Wii". at least there is some creativity at nintendo with naming, not just simply adding a number to the end of the previous console name.

It doesn't matter it's called the wii.Revolution was code name for a pre production prototype.I like either. It doesn't matter because it doesn't change anything it could be called "this thread sucks" and I would still get one.
Survey what survey?
They chose the wii because it was right for asians and that's all there was to it.
*edit not to mention they weren't really next gen, so the name revolution would be void.

I forgot what wii meant in japanese but maybe oofrome could tell us.I googled it but nothing came up.I thought it meant togetherness or some sh*t.
anyways though here's nintendo's explaination for americans(which is kinda lame if you ask me lol)
Quote: The console was known by the codename of "Revolution" until immediately prior to E3 2006. Nintendo spells "Wii" with two "i"s to imply an image of players gathering together, as well as to represent the console's controllers. Nintendo has given many reasons for its choice of name since its announcement; however, the most well known is:
Wii
Wii sounds like 'we,' which emphasizes that the console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.[11]
Wii
According to the Nintendo Style Guide: A Guide to the Proper Usage of Some of Nintendo's Products:
Wii
It is simply Wii, not Nintendo Wii. It is pronounced "we," indicating its all-inclusive nature. The name works best at the beginning of declarative statements. For clarity, it is best to avoid passive verbs and prepositions.

Yeah tycobb I remember hearing that somewere. But what is funny is that they said

Im thinking what do you mean no confsion" "We" sound's the same thing as "Wii" and so does "oui" (in french it mean's yes) so people who dont play much video games would not know what your talking about. But that's just my opinion. I kind of understand what their saying but you could easily conterdict them.
