Hi all,

I really respect the people who use this forum, you are all so helpful, that being said, I can usually find help just by using the search option, this problem, however, is unusual.

Ok, whenever I play an .Avi file on my computer, no matter if I use Real player or Windows Media player, my computer will reset. A total hard reboot of the machine follows me opening ANY .avi file on my box.
DivX is installed, (latest version) and I can post my DxDiag if that would help diagnose the problem.

Thanks for ANY replies.

Does this happen with every .avi file?

Do you have FFDShow or other codec (packs) installed?

Quote:
- Start -> Run -> write "regedit" and push enter.
Go -> HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
If there is "DivX" -> delete it.
- Then go -> HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler\
And delete value (defeault). It will come back, then you can close regedit and restart your computer.

If you do not want to play with regedit you can try this:
- Start -> Run -> write "regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll" and push enter.
If that did not hepl, you can get it back, write "regsvr32 shimgvw.dll".
