I'm having some serious trouble getting these backups to work. I'm using Samsung Pleomax 8X, and i have tried burning both at 2x and 2.4x. I boot the backups with swap magic, and either the disc loads and i just get a black screen, or it doesn't load and comes up with the message "not a valid ps2 disc".

I tried rebuilding LSWII, and still no joy. Yakuza i cant rebuild uing my Nero/Isobuster method, because of a file bigger than 2gig.

I do not think its my ps2 or the media, as all of my other games work fine(WE10, Madden 07) and they are on the same media.

Please can some1 suggest a way to get these games working?

Yup. My copies of Yakuza & LSW2 work fine as well.
Burnt at 4x on RITEK G05 8x DVD-R with Nero.
The RITEK G05 media, in my opinion, is the best for PS2 backups. 100% success rate.

Always 1st with 100% working PS2 Online Game DNA$ IDs!!

Yep me too... I only use ritekg05 for my PS2 backups - I use my TYg02 for really important things like brilliant movies etc that I just have to have last a looong time.. I use them sparingly at £30 for 100 discs.. the ritekg05 I get for around £16 per 100 discs, so can be used for anything.. then I use optodisc dye discs 16x for data discs at around 12p each.

It pays to shop around and find what's best for what purpose.. it may not seem like much of a saving between 12p per disc and 16p per disc.. but I go through 100's of those discs every month and at £4 per 100 saving that's enough to buy me another 100 pack of discs or 2 :D

Thanks alot for the help, and I'm thinkin of purchasing some Riteks soon.

On another point, my pc had recently been wiped, and I had to reinstall many programs. I d'no if the settings on my burn programs have been reset, and unfortunately i do not know what my original settings were. I use Nero and DVD Decrypter, and I use Samsung Pleomax 8x DVD+R, could some please suggest settings to optimise the backup performance on my ps2? (I have heard about booktyping but I dont really know that much about it :S)

Have a read through some of the guides in my sig.. especially my "checklist" thread.. and the stickies at the top of the board have quite a bit of useful info too ;)

Just asking, but have you tried DVD-R discs? that way you don't have to worry about booktyping and most if not all PS2 consoles should read them anyway.. that's if your burner supports DVD-R, but it should do.
