Hi, i have the old silver ds and i was wondering if the m3 mini sd would work with it and passkey2.
Would this be ok?

Yes that will work, though your better off getting a Passcard3 instead of the Passkey2.

yeah. passcard3 is just plug and play. and you dont need to update it or anything.
