I'd like to know if the Maxell 8x DVD-R (ID: MAXELL 002) made in Taiwan are good.

I thought that all "MAXELL 002" media were made in Japan.
I wonder if those made in taiwan are fake...

Maxell 002 are made in Japan. I do believe, however, they are only +R's. -R MIJ are MXL RG03

I have a few spindles that have "Made in Japan" labels covering over the "Made in Taiwan". I've noticed this on many of Maxells packaging in the last year.

The Taiwans are not fake, however you can get a mixed bag. Stay with the Made in Japan, you can't go wrong.

mackdl is absolutely correct on this one~ :)

the MAXELL002 coding is ONLY on the 8x DVD+R -Hitachi made- media in JAPAN...

if i may ask Ajattara, where did u purchase this supposed pack of Maxell 8x DVD-R made in Taiwans???? i can almost assure you 100% that if it's the DVD-R format under the 8x rated speed, the MADE IN TAIWANs are RitekG05 MID coded (at least they were when i purchased them years ago) and the made in Japans are the MXLRG03 just as mackdl stated in his response~ :)

are you sure you got the format correct? meaning, you meant to write Maxell 8x dvd+R format, but instead wrote Maxell 8x DVD-R format?

MAXELL002 coding is EXCLUSIVE to the 8x rated DVD+R format MIJ only! they are manufactured by Hitachi in Japan, the taiwanese 8x DVD+R Maxells are the Ritek made RITEKR03/RICOHJPNR02 coded ones~ :)

i have yet to PERSONALLY see a "fake" Maxell disc yet, while not impossible, i just haven't seen it nor heard of it...it's one thing to jump and "fake" a MID coding, but to go from a MID coding of ONE format to the OTHER, that is highly unlikely~ :)

I didn't buy it.
And I haven't seen the pack.

I asked an online seller in my country and she said it's -R with Maxell002 code.
Maybe she checked a DVD+R instead.

Well, if it's a japanese DVD+R, I think I'll buy it.

it's probably the representatives mistake~ :) perhaps she pulled a 8x DVD+R off the shelf and did a dvd identifier on it giving you the MAXELL002 coding, i assure you, an 8x DVD-R disc will NEVER EVER EVER have the "MAXELL002" coding, especially one that is "made in taiwan"... :)

regardless of who's "mistake" it is/was, if she is telling you that it's "made in japan" FOR SURE 100%, i would definitely pick them up~ Maxell brand + MIJ = high quality media~ especially in the 8x rated speed, either format is very good...

Last time I've checked, the Maxell <b>DVD+R</b> made in Taiwan are good. I've bought these at my local store [J & R] in NYC, and they had some Made in Japan stickers covered over Made in Taiwan spindles. Some did not have the sticker.

I'm assuming the store did not open these DVD+R and made sure which is Made in Taiwan and which is Made in Japan because all had the same wrappers.

However, I took the one without the sticker, checked the media code, and it was MAXELL 002.

If one is buying instore, make sure you know their return policy before purchasing. Ask at customer service, and write down the name of the staff member on the back of your bill. If they don't have a name tag, ask.

Myself, I look for the MIJ's and only purchase those. I have also seen MIT labels covering the original packaging of MIJ.
