If you haven't read this is the article: http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/7940.cfm
Just wanted to now what you guys think about this. Seems Ritek wants to help stop the backing up of movie which would seem counter to what their business entails.

Yikes, that sounds rather evil. Even if I was only using DVD for data storage I still wouldn't like the idea that "Big Brother" is keeping dibs on my location and blank media spending habbits.

Thanks for the link Pluto.

Perhaps I'm missing something but I don't see how even an RFID-enabled will know a bootleg DVD from your wedding video.

Don't buy Ritek media anyway, it's crap.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

This is probably a spoof to see everyone's reaction.

Oh my, arrest me! I used my DvdRecorder so I could watch my favorite TV show at a more convenient time. Heard of FairUse? This just ain't gonna happen!

I have a hard time believing this story. Ritek isn't that moral of a company to be drastically cutting their sales which this would do, unless they were getting some huge ass kick back from the movie studios.

I've been using Ritek 16x white inkjet hub printable DVD-R for about 6 months now with great results. It's only $165 shipped for a 500 pack from supermediastore. Although Taiyo Yuden is the best media out there, I've used both & I must say I've never seen a difference in the quality. However I have noticed the difference in price :D Which i can contribute a few of my new 360 games to.

As far as that article goes, we'll discover life on other planets before they implement that BS.

I have 2 words; "boycott Ritek".

I know few of my friends have used Ritek before, but I'm not so sure about now. Me, I don't need to worry about it, been stopped using Ritek 2 years ago. I'm all about Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (MIJ by Hitachi Corp.), as long as these 3 are around, I'll never never never ever change my media.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

The Russians have a Word for this ( Disinformativa) or something like that - not a scholar in english or russian so if I butchered the word my apologies to both languages ! But basically it means - Specifically BS!!!! Lies y'all put out to achieve a desired effect ! Like those British soldiers posing with wooden Thompson Submachine guns in WWII or the Inflatable Tanks and jeeps ect.. It's like Magicians tricks misdirections & subterfuge ! And on the new Video formats ! with all the Crippled DRM techno-crap systems they designed into them I think I'll pass for now ! Besides they have'nt started to make their money back yet so early adopters get to pay for that!and help them get the bugs out of the technology as well ! As for Me I'll stick with DVD !!!
