Using Windows XP Pro SP2, all the newest updates. Nero 7.2.70.

I want to install the new 7.5 version. As I had some problems in the last couple 7.2 versions, I want to uninstall it with the cleantool before updating, to remove any corrupted settings, etc.

Unfortunately, I cannot get cleantool 7 to work. Every time I execute it (General-CleanTool_2_1_5_17.exe), I'm asked to select the Nero install path, which I do.

I then see a screen to choose the products to remove. One product is listed, Nero. I clock the check box by the name to select it, and/or click "Clean All", then click "Clean". I'm asked whether I really want to remove Nero, and I click "Yes".

For about one second I see a message "Please Wait". Then, I get the error message:

The title bar of the message says: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library". Inside the message:
Runtime Error!
Program \...\...cleantool.exe
abnormal program termination.

I tried many things to get this to work, but couldn't. I all
ways get that same error message when I run cleantool.

I always recommend uninstalling first and then run the clean tool.

I had a similar problem a couple of versions ago. The CleanTool left some remnants in directories and registry, an error message and would not complete.

This is what advice was given to me. Please be aware this involves editing the registry. If you are not confident, don't attempt this.
This was on a MCE SP2 machine.

This was the advice I used to clean Nero off my machne.

It seems that not all Nero 7 entries have been completely deleted from your
system.
Please follow the steps below in order to find these Nero 7 entries:

1.)
In Windows Explorer open the folder
C:\Program Files\
and check if the folder
"Nero"
is available.
If yes, delete the folder "Nero" (with all subfolders) If one or more files or
subfolders cannot be deleted, then try to delete each subfolder separately.
If files or folders cannot be deteted at all, leave them untouched.
Please let us know which files or folders could not be erased, and what kind of
error message you get when you try deleting the file.

2.)
In Windows Explorer open the folder
C:\Program Files\Common Files
And check if the folder
"Ahead"
is available.
If yes, delete the folder "Ahead" (with all subfolders) If one or more files or
subfolders cannot be deleted, then try to delete each subfolder separately.
If files or folders cannot be deteted at all, leave them untouched.
Please let us know which files or folders could not be erased, and what kind of
error message you get when you try deleting the file.

2A) I also deleted C:\Program Files\Ahead

3.)
In Windows Explorer open the folder
C:\Documents and Settings\>>user name<<\Local Settings and delete the folder
"Temp"
Note:
The folder "local settings" is a hidden folder which could not be displayed in
Windows Explorer, depending on your configuration.
In this case please check this setting:
In Windows Explorer select
> Tools > Folder Options > View > Hidden Files and Folders > Show hidden
files and folders
Confirm this change with "apply" and "OK".

4.)
Verify if there are Nero entries left in the registry.
Open the Registry by clicking on "Start" in Windows, clicking on "Run", entering
"regedit" in the text field, and confirming with "OK".

A)
Select the path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
and check if the entry
"Ahead"
is available.
If yes, delete the entry "Ahead" (with all all subentries)

B)
Select the path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\
and check if the entry
"Nero"
is available.
If yes, delete the entry "Nero" (with all all subentries)

C)
Select the path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
and check if the entry
"Ahead"
is available.
If yes, delete the entry "Ahead" (with all all subentries)

D)
Select the path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\
and check if the entry
"Nero"
is available.
If yes, delete the entry "Nero" (with all all subentries)

5.)
Close all open windows and restart your PC.

-Hope this works for you

Do you mean that you uninstall Nero first with Add/Remove Programs, then uninstall it again with Cleantool? Does that work? Cleantool asks in which folder Nero is installed. If it isn't installed any more, won't Cleantool give an error message?

I tried all the suggestions. Regedit says it can't delete the Ahead key. Nero & Ahead is not in the program files or the common files. The problem is Nero won't install. It creates the temp files, then quits before it finishes the installation. It leaves the Nero directory and its files, but can't finish. I've deleted everything 4 times, ran the tool, cleaned the registry, and it still won't install Nero. Any ideas?

goldenear...you're not the original poster. Do you have an XP SP2 7.5 install problem?
Is it suspicious that you can't delete a registry entry and then have trouble installing? I wonder what's going on? Could there be an authorisation or permissions issue?

Have you tried to change the permission on the key? You could try searching the web for regedit problems. Here's what I turned up.

I haven't tried this, so please consider before you do this...
Highlight the key, click Edit->Permissions, Add to the security list a user named Everybody, and give him Full Control. Click ok.
Now you can delete the key (and hopefully you can still use the computer.

Permissions did the trick. I am the only user, so I don't have any passwords set. I haven't had any trouble editing or deleting keys before. I changed the permissions for the key, and gave myself full permission. It then deleted. Instead of Regedit saying there was a error, it should have said I didn't have permission. That would have made things easier. I have XP SP2 and installing 7.5

Thanks

Strange thing happened when I reinstalled 7.5. When it recreated the "Nero" keys, it set the permissions so that it was unable to finish the installation. So I changed the permissions again, reran the installation in the repair mode, and it finished the instalation without a problem. I wonder if my case is unique. But it is all working now.

Good to hear you solved that one. It remains to be seen how many others have problems.

I didn't have problems with latest update, but I did a complete cleanup when I went from 6.6.x.x to 7.2.3.2b a while ago. Subsequent 7.2.7.0 and 7.5.1.1 updates installed OK.
