Hi,I was wondering if demonoid is really a private tracker or not?

If so then why can I go there and download whatever without even signing in?

I know demonoid isn't much but it's all I got.I got it from svtstang a while back.

Hahaha no problem man.Thank you, because now I know it's not just me.I figured it, but still was confounded by it lol.

But see what has me worried is this....Doesn't this defeat the whole purpose of having a private tracker?

I thought the purpose of a private tracker was that it's safer because they make people uphold the upload to download ratio which in turn makes it harder for the bad guys to catch us.This might as well be a public tracker am I right?

no. the purpose of a private tracker is being PRIVATE. meaning none of these kiddys know it even exists. theres private trackers out there that will ban you in a heartbeat if they find you have posted their url or even name in a public way... again to reiderate (sp) the purpose of a private tracker is PRIVACY.

and to answer your question demonoid is borderline public. Yes you have to sign-up or be invited but everyone and thier mom knows about it and its easy as hell to get onto. so it may as well be public.

When a tracker makes you keep your upload ratio relatively high this ensures your not just downloading and getting peoples ip address etc. This means you must upload which the RIAA and the MPAA aren't into(not saying they don't).It also unsures there aren't pure leechers.

Files have a notepad file that say "tracked by demonoid" all the time so they get there name out there.Meaning the kids know it exists because we've all got that even when we weren't downloading from demonoid. For me that is public.

No you don't have to sign up or be invited. That's not what I meant anyways.I mean its no different then a public tracker if anyone can go there and download without signing up and keeping there ratios up.I can do the same thing at isohunt without signing up or keeping my ratios up and also have more seeds and the same amount of danger!

**edit in other words there seems to be no incentive for signing up and keeping your ratios up.

I understand what you are saying Tycobb I am a member of Demonoid and I was surprised when I was able to download files without signing in, but then I found out that only fresh and new torrents are available for download without sign up. To get ahold of torrents older than a few days you must sign up.
