As the title says, I'm in the market to purchase a new power supply. Now some specs on the system. The computer is a store bought good ole' eMachines. About a week, and a half ago there was a storm, and my psu blew. So I swapped it with another one that I had, and the computer came back to life! Now here's the questions...

- I shop from newegg.com, and I see there are either several types.

ATX12V, ATX12/EPS12V, AT, MicroATX, I know these are the form factors, but I'm not sure what mine is..

Pin Types: 20, 20+4, and 24.

I disconnected the psu from the mobo, and counted 20 pins, and one is not there? like not broken off, but skipped?

- I open the case, and look on the psu, and it only has input/output voltage, frequency, manufacturer, and the s/n. The voltage of the current one is a max of 280. The old one that was in it, was 300. Now the reason that I need to change it, is when I leave the computer alone for a few minutes, it powers down. I have every setting that I know of disabled for that type of feature. I need help.

atx and micro atx are todays standar in psu the size 300w,400w etc depends on you system needs what kind of procesor your pc have how many drives(cd-rom,hard drives etc..) any case fans?.
atx 12v comes in 20 pins and eps12v 24 pins if says boths it means it comes with a 20 pins an 4 pins extra for the main connector in case need it.
but you can buy a 450w or 480w psu dont go for generic psu they sometimes dont output what they suppose to.
