Hi people. I've been browsing this forum for the last couple of hours or so, and I didn't find a thread that would answer this (stupid) question.

To the facts, shall we?

I live in Brazil, so I believe we have PAL system here. Anyway, both TV and DVD sets I have will play PAL and NTSC.

I have this .avi file, which resolution is 640x272 (2.35:1) [=40:17] (checked with GSpot).

If I decide to watch it on my computer using BSPlayer or Media Player, I'll get a perfect good looking image, with letterbox orginal sizes.
Or even if I used my computer S-VIDEO to TV output I would get original image and letterbox sizes. And it would look something like this:

But, if I use WINAVI or any other software to conver .avi files to DVD so I can watch them on my 29" TV, and I keep the original aspect ratio, I would still get distorted image sizes and altered letterboxes sizes. I mean, during the conversion from .avi to DVD, WINAVI adds pixels to the height and they would look like this:

What am I missing here? Which settings I am leaving behind? I already tried to change with and height on WINAVI settings, but they still look weird on my TV.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi there,

Give VSO ConvertXtoDVD a try.

Maybe it will keep the ratio looking better on your tv ? :)

My 2 cents...

try avi2dvd, its free and has the PAL-to-NTSC and NTSC-to-PAL converter built right in. the super complicated way to fix this is to learn how to use TMPGEnc xpress 3 or something like it.
