I am having problem adding more memory to my motherboard. Right now I have 2 sticks (256MB each) of Crucial PC2100. I am trying to add another Crucial 256MB for a total of 768MB. But everytime I add the the memory stick, I do not get any display on my monitor when I turn on my machine. After I removed the stick, I am able to see the display. I know the memory stick is good because I tried it on another machine. Is there some setting in the Bios that I have to update? I have an Abit KG-7 Raid motherboard with 4 slot of space for my memory. I used to have a gig of memory but gave a 512 stick away. Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.

hello.
that abit mobo has a amd 760 northbriged chipset that support ddr 166/266 or pc-1600 and pc-2100 but it has a limitation in order to fill all 4 memory banks you have to use registered memory dimms wich are slower but more stable beacuse they were desing for servers pc´s

you cant fill the all 4 memory bank with normal memory it wont work.

here a few reviews see for your self:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registered_memory

http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/prod...ries=1&model=30

these memory is more expensive so if you need more memory and dont want to expense the extra cash try to use two 512 pc-2100 dimms on slot 1 and 2. of normal memory modules

hope i help

That is weird becuase I used to have 1 gig of memory, 256MB on slot 1, 256MB on slot 2, and 512MB on slot 3. I gave the 512MB away and I don't think the 512 was registered dimms. Actually, how can you tell if the memory is registered?

well maybe they were because you didnt know about those memory untill now or didnt have it in mind by that time.

if you read the abit link i post it says over a 1gb to 3,5gb registered mem only.

to know if memory is ecc register or non-ecc registered memory in the store should advertised that on product specs and should be printed on memory dimm.
