ok so like a few weeks ago my computer stop copying dvd's in less than 20 mins. it now takes over an hour to copy with DVD Shrink, or dvd fab. i think my dvd rom is having trouble reading the data as fast as it used to, could it be a firmware issue? i have a dell dimension e310 the dvd-rom is an HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8164B the burner is an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H21N. i also noticed that for some reason my computer is using an awful lot of memory when burning, i only have 512mb of ram, i'm looking to upgrade to 1 or 2gb in the near future. ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE GLADLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!

Check your drives transfer mode too - they should be in DMA mode - look under 'current transfer mode' - ultra dma should be listed.
Here's a guide:

How about pc maintenance keeping up on that?
Run anti virus/spyware scans at least weekly, disc cleanup and system defrag weekly also.
Not keeping up on maintenance can slow things up too.
If you haven't done this very recently run that and check the dma.
Ok what does the 'current transfer mode' show - should say aomething like 'ultra dma mode 4', 'ultra dma mode 5' for the all drives (including the hard drive)
Using Nero to burn w/ Shrink? Nero has a log that might be useful.
Are the dvd's you are trying to copy scratched or dirty?
