Spotted this site while searching for glossy blank dvds...

http://www.blankmedia.ca/proddetail3.asp?id=1148

They are the only site I have found that sells them so far. Has anybody tried either these or the new Verbatim glossy blanks yet?

http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.m...y_Code=VERBATIM

Would like to know your results please!

I've used the Taiyo Yuden WaterShield CD-Rs and DVD-Rs. The Printable quality is fantastic. The only problem is that the discs are pretty expensive (about $.70 a disc for the CD-Rs and over $.80 each for the 16X DVD-Rs). There are a lot of sites that sell them. I get mine from http://www.burnsmart.com

These Watershield discs are simply among the best hub printables. If you want a water resistant high gloss finish that looks as good or better than a studio production Disc then you have just found them. They're not cheap but they're certainly the best looking discs that I have ever used. Kudos to Tayio Yuden for coming out with these.

So I just got some of these discs over the weekend. I must say the printing quality is quite superior. Very pleased with the results. I am a little concerned with the burn quality, however. My experience with TY media has been great. My burns typically yield very low C1 errors, almost always in the low hundreds, never thousands. However, I've noticed on this new media, the C1 errors are in the thousands! Way above what I'm used to. I even had one disc with C2 errors. I always burn the media before printing to assure an accurate burn. I'm using a Plextor Premium CD-RW drive in conjunction with Plextools Pro for burning.

I'm curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience with burn quality.

Glad somebody tested these too! I received mine a few days ago and am very concerned about the burn quality also. The DVD-R and CDs have much higher errors than the inkjet hub printables I used to use. I usually get 200 C1 errors on average with my plextor 760A but with the watershield discs the average is 10,000 and sometimes C2 errors. The C2 errors are usually one spike but that's one spike too many for me. Something I noticed that is very strange I scanned the disc with C2 errors a few hours later and with plextools it said around 7,000 C1 errors but it still had some 2,000 C2 errors but not in the same place. Can someone explain what's going on and why did I get 2 different results? The DVDs aren't quite as bad but the PIE average that I use to get with the regular inkjet printable was 0.9 but with the watershield again the PIE average jumps to 5.92. Sure the print quality is fantastic but not worth it if your main concern is quality burns.

So nobody else has tested this media??? At this point I don't see myself buying these again in the near future until TY addresses the burn issues. I have not had one clean burn. Most burns contain 1000's of C2 errors. Why TY, why? And yes, I do have quality drives.

Where did you get the media from? I was getting very poor scans and then took a chance and purchased another 50 cds and dvds from another supplier and now I'm getting great scans...the same as what I'm used to getting

I purchased the CD-R's from www.cdrdvdrmedia.com. They were running a special on 50pks:

Are you suggesting that they may be fakes, or a bad batch?

Being that I purchased my first batch from Meritline which is in the same city I'm thinking maybe Ty's quality control might not have been what we are used to yet on this media. All my Tys burn about the same with a C1 average when scanned in plextools around 0.9. C2 errors NEVER happen. In my first batch the top few discs were horrible just like the bottom one. In my new batch everything is just as expected....fantastic. On the initial dvd package there is the top piece of paper written in I guess Japanese and it states made in Japan while the cds didn't have that but the new batch has the exact same packaging so I doubt if these were fakes. It just seems like a few less than perfect ones got by someone.

I usually order my media from Meritline, but opted to buy from this other company due to their sale offer. I suspect these two companies are one and the same. So did you buy your second batch from Meritline or a different supplier?

I don't recall if the Water Shield spindle came with the printed insert you described. I know my TY DVD's have this insert. Maybe I'll pull a disc from the center of the pack and see if it burns any better. Here is a scan of my last burn:

C1 = 11946
C2 = 32241
CU = 0

Drive: Plexwriter Premium

Wow! That's a nice spike at the end. Very similar to what my first few had. I usually deal with supermediastore but in an e-mail from them I was told they won't be carrying these discs. The new batch I bought was from CD Dimensions and Mediasupply. They are both located on the east coast and every burn was successful with the same low errors as any ty discs I've burned in the past.
