I've spent the past ten minutes or so, reading through all of the old topics that ask for help on backing up Mercenaries, but the thing is, they all ask for help on what to do after they've ripped it to an ISO. I can't even get that far. DVD Decryptor just spits out an I/O error every time (and I've tried all of the I/O options).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Use IsoBuster to rip the files to your HDD & do a rebuild. Read the sticky on rebuilding a game & making a new iso.

Tried that, and while it did get me an ISO, it still wouldn't play. That maybe I just wasn't burning it right, so I put the ISO onto my PS2 HDD via IDE to USB, and it still wouldn't play. I'm bginning to wonder if it's the disk itself.

It might be that mercenaries doesn't work on USB advance or whatever you're using.. and maybe you're using crappy dvd's to burn to? what discs are you using?

+ which way did you use for the rebuild part of my guide? I'd suggest using Nero way personally.. much easier.

I used a Memorex DVD-R of mine (which have always worked perfectly before), and a Verbatim -R that my roommate gave to me (both were burned with DVD Decryptor at 4x). I'm using the Apache3/CD-DVD Gen/IMLtoISO method. Tried Nero, but couldn't figure out how to make it spit out just the ISO, rather than wanting to burn it outright. I'm thinking it's the disk, as it also messed up while playing regularly at this certain point in the game.

Well, you can get Nero to spit out an .nrg file which is the same as an ISO basically.. just choose image recorder as your burner instead of an actual dvd writer.. in UDF/ISO option in Nero burning rom. but if you're using memorex chances are that so many games are gonna be coasters anyway or will become coasters over time.. your call though, good luck with it.
