Noob - Do the newer games auto update FW plse?

I've read an awful lot over the last couple of days;/

One thing I'm not certain of...

I want to load ISO's (is this where I get kicked from the forum:)) and it seems the general consensus is that I'll need to downgrade to 1.5 to do this? Can someone confirm this is correct plse, I presume nothing has been developed yet to allow umdloaders to run on anything above 1.5?

So, if this is true, before I attempt to downgrade (currently on v2.0), I was wondering how the FW updates work on the newer games. Do they automatically upgrade the FW? Or is it optional within that game? I'm just wondering if it's worth it. If I get newer games and it auto updates the FW everytime then I'll have to downgrade everytime I want to emulate an ISO right? Dont wanna risk bricking my psp with regular downgrades ya see.

I'd be grateful for any comments. Thanking in advance. And apologies if we're not allowed to talk about ISO's on this forum. I guess you'll have to sue me!

Yep, you MUST have a 1.5 to play ISO's.

No, games will not auto update your firmware.

Downgrading is always the way to go if you can, it opens up a whole new world :)

Excellent. Thanks for the rapid response g.

I was hoping this would be the case. Only have the one umd game at the mo, GTALCS, and I noticed that there was an option on the umd to update to version 2.0, so presumed this would be optional for all games. My silly friend thinks the newer games automatically update the FW. I'll set him str8. Cheers. Looking forward to haxing my psp, spent hours having fun researching this already and havent even played a game yet!

Don't some newer games require later FW than 1.5 to run? If so this is where I need to use devhook yeah?

yea u r right u need devhook to emulate the latest fireware(upto fw2.71)and then play those games!!!!while emulating the fireware like 2.71(or any)ur psp systemsoftware will show 2.71(or wat u r emulating) but dont think u have to downgarde lol!!!!u can come back to 1.5 by restarting ur psp(by holding the power for 5-10 sec)if u knew it before then ignore this post lol!!!good luck!!!

I kinda read a bit about devhook, and how to instal/use it. Just wanted to be clear on a couple o things before I decided to downgrade. Thanks all for helping clear up these points. Will go for it l8r when I get some time, and pray I won't be looking for posts about 'omfg i've just bricked my psp' later :)

1.5 and devhook for the win then! /fingers crossed :)
