I've downsampled a fair few dvd's before and haven't had any problems up until now.

However for whatever reason, when i try and burn some dvd's i find that they will play fine in my pc but fail in my dvd player/xbox (which normally plays them fine). Note this is not a media problem more that the IFO's seem to be non compliant!?!

Now the rips are not done by me and hence are just the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder.

Like I say its evident to me that the ifo is non compliant. One method for me to correct this is to remove all the ifo's etc so i am left with the vobs for the film only. And then to regenerate new VIDEO_TS using create IFO in ifoedit.

The two questions I have are:

1. Whats the best settings on using IFOedit Create Vob's to create dvd player compliant VIDEO_TS files etc.

2. Is there a program to check if VIDEO_TS.IFO/Bub files are valid and hence will play in commercial players?

TIA!

A typical VIDEO_ST folder of a DVD is similar to :

VIDEO_TS BUP 16,384
VIDEO_TS IFO 16,384
VIDEO_TS VOB 43,008
VTS_01_0 BUP 77,824
VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824
VTS_01_0 VOB 1,695,744
VTS_01_1 VOB 1,073,565,696\
VTS_01_2 VOB 1,048,565,696 \ <-- This is the Main movie
VTS_01_3 VOB 1,048,565,696 /
VTS_01_4 VOB 589,365,248 /
VTS_02_0 BUP 18,432
VTS_02_0 IFO 18,432
VTS_02_0 VOB 43,008
VTS_02_1 VOB 6,014,976

When ripping select main movie VOB's (usually selected for you in SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter) and then select the main movie IFO which is always 2 above VOB title set... so for example --> VTS_01_0 IFO 77,824 <-- this file needs to be selected aswell
Then if you run these files thru DVD2One (taking it the files are larger than 4.36Gb , otherwise you'd have chosen all files to rip) it'll make IFO & BUP file(s) needed to play correctly.

If I can be more help , just holla!: )

Thanks for the reply.

What i probably didn't make clear is that these movies have already been downsampled - its just that they won't play on commercial dvd players for some reason. I think its ifo related and hence thats why i'm thinkning about re-generating just the ifo and removing all extras/menu's etc to make the process easier.

By Downsampled i mean the bitrate has been reduced so that it fits onto standard dvd-r media

I use DVD Decrypter and Elaborate Bytes(Clone DVD) to burn my backups.... I make a dvd iso with out CSS/CPPM/ect.. then load it up to Deamon Tools..Lauch Clone DVD...you can preview the VOB files so you know what parts of the movie you want to be burned... Recommend to burn to a Re-Writable first to check if you want it with out menus or menus..

Play each VOB file then , it is a pain when it stops to start another VOB but it'll at least be watchable then.
If that doesnt work then you have something wrong with your hardware configuration Alex13

If you open VIDEO_TS.IFO in IFOEdit and click the DVD Play button it will tell you when you have a non-compliant ifo. I use this method with my DVD Shrink backups as it doesn't always create compliant ifo files. If it gives me an error (don't remember the message right off the top of my head) I click the Get VTS Sectors button to fix it and then test again just to make sure.

I know I can run the movie from the VOB files, but this also means I cant have subtitles.

Alex13 I was presuming you just wanted to check your files for burning seeing as we are discussing this in a DVD-R Forum & not DVD Ripping/Playback forums...

If all your files are there , burn them.

I have a similar problem. My rips play fine on the pc but will pause at chapter changes etc.. on standalone samsung s224. Partly due to cheap media but i think its more that these samsungs aren't very good at reading dvd-r's (except very good quality ones). Think I'll have to fork out extra cash for the clone riteks or get another standalone.. Damn nothing's ever easy..
