I just bought Verbatim MCC 004 16x DVD+R and for some reason 3 out of the 4 disc I have burnt are coasters. I adjusted my burn speed from 4x to the more normal 8x that a quick forum search said was the best speed for this media, but again another coaster.

My burner is a NEC ND-6650A and I have updated the firmware... So that shouldn't be it. I am using DVD Decrypter to burn. Should I switch to Nero?

I really had high hopes for Verbatims, but so far my Sony's just seem to be better. Is there something I am doing wrong? Something I need to check? Or possibly another burn speed that might improve the quality or at the very least give me a usable copy of disc?

Thanks in advance guys... I am going to watch the game. Later.

Welcome to AD Jivesaint...

ive had this problem with some of the 16x+r verbs also..i know it goes against all the logical thinking of burning your media at half the speed of the disc, but i found that this last batch of verbs i have i began burning them at 12x and have had no problem with them.my last 15 or so burns on them have been at 12x and no coasters... just something to try out

my MCC003, MCC004 and some old 8x -R Verbatim sporadically give me problems; real annoying, my symptoms are usually twice as long burns (i do 8x on all 16x discs and on 8x Verbatim and TY discs); this is why i'm not as keen on normal Verbatim of late

These verbatims are horrible... I have updated to the image burn software... Adjusted my burn speed... And even took the time to analyze these discs (DVD Info) for errors... But so far I have 1 playable disc out of 8.

That sucks... I think my burner just must hate these discs because I never had these problems with Sony. So I think I am going to take these back to Best Buy (could Best Buy possibly have been sold fakes?) and get some Sony Discs.

Thanks for the help guys,
J

hi JiveSaint,

What version of ps2 you have? I heard that the older models dont support DVD+R like the latest models. Sony dvds can be on some circumstances an exception to this issue...

Is also said that dvd(-)r works better on most ps2s compared to dvd(+)

I have ps2 v16 with infinity 1.88 mod. I have used Verbatim DVD-R 16X media and alcohol 120%(burn speed x4) for my backups and so far i havent got any problems.

If possible, try couple of DVD-R for your backups to see how it works . Verbatim should be a good media.
