I thought you could catch it in the wild after a certain part of the game?

Mew!*
=====
To get Mew, you must aquire the Old Sea Chart. Now this really stinks: To get
it you can do 2 things:
The first way is to buy a Gameshark from a video game store or online (like at
Amazon.com). Then, plug it into the Gameboy, start the game, and go anywhere
you want. Then, hold L and enter the code:
19C67C656689
94318A10E753
You are now on Faraway Isle. Mew will immediately see you, and you'll enter
battle. Mew is psychic, so battle it with Bug, Dark, and Ghost. If you
accidentally kill it, turn off the Gameboy and retry it: just like several
other legendaries, you only get one shot at it. You can't save on Faraway Isle,
though. Unfortunately, this place is off the maps, so you can't fly back.
Instead enter this code while holding L:
19C67C656689
12B9BF13D649
This code is similar to the first, but is slightly different. The second way
is to go to a Nintendo Game Event, but they haven't been doing those for several
years. If you know someone who went to one and has a Chart, mix records with
them to get one.

I know it's possible to get Mew in all game sso far, either by expoliting glitches/using cheat cartridges or by going to some stupid Nintendo events to get tickets or whatever, but has there ever been a case where you can simply "Catch" it like any other pokemon?

no.... fair point but it still remains that they obviously took him in to account when creating the games for him to actually be in it and have a pokedex entry and all... so they know that people are gonna find a way to get it and here in the uk there isnt any nintendo events... so why dont they just make him catchable?? to be honest hes not even that good lol

Yeah...so you can't get it without a nintendo event or an action replay...@miles I've seen many threads asking about legendary pokemon by you, and you can get all them with an action replay or by going into the record extanging room with a player that has the islands it's on (the pokemon)

Of course it's not in the guide book.
It's always some kind of glitch you have to exploit, or have to use action replay or gameshark.
Wasn't in the guide book for red and blue, but what do you know, I caught one halfway through the game.
Guide books aren't reliable when we're talking about something you have to use glitches to acquire.
