I bought a pack of 10 maxell DVD-R. I bought this brand before when my laptop was working(screen cracked so i cant use it now) And never burned a coaster. However since my laptop is broken right now i have to use a external dvd burner on my dated desktop. This is the thing though. On my desktop i dont have any usb 2.0 ports. only 1.1 so the fastest my dvd burner can burn is around 0.6kb/s I burned over 6 coasters already. I burned fight night round 3 nba 2k7 and madden 07 and not one of them will boot up. I using swap magic 3.3 When i swap the disks in and press x on the controller my ps2 will just make noise and the screen will hand for about 30 secs and then it will say not a valid ps2 disk. Am i actually burning my games to slow? Is it the media? I did burn madden 07 on a sony DVD-R and it plays fine.

There's people that have said burning too slow can cause problems but, speaking from personal experience I've noticed that backups which were burned at lower speeds worked better (I go as low as 1X and have had no problem infact most of my burns are at 1X)

edit:
I guess I should've mentioned my burns were with an internal burner never tried with a usb 1.1

I doubt it's the maxell discs. I burned over 20 games with maxell media on my laptop and they all play fine.

Then again i burned madden with this new pack of maxell and it didnt work and then i burned it with a sony DVD-R and it works fine. I'll buy a pack of sony DVD-R tommorow and see if those works.

Also my fight night round 3 that i thought was a coaster worked once yesterday. I decided to try it again and it worked. I played a couple of online matches and i turned it off. Today i tried again and i couldn't get it to work. When i press x at the swap disc menu it looks like it froze for about 30 secs ad the ps2 sounds like it's trying to spin the disc but cant. Then the swap disc menu says not a valid disc. This makes no sense. Why would it work once and wont work anymore? Maybe maxell media isn't as good as they were. They do look different then the 50 pack i bought before when i had my laptop. The 50 pack of maxell blanks i bought were bright yellow. This 10 pack i bought are golden.

Do anyone know if there is some type of way i can put usb 2.0 ports onto my desktop?? I have 4 usb ports but they all usb 1.1

Theres nothing wrong with maxell, almost all dvd's are actually made in the same factories, they just put different brand names on them, if you want quality look for ones made in japan or USA, but good luck with that lol, I've burned hundreds on maxells and never had a single problem, I have had lots of problems with memorex though, they seem to break down over time, games that worked a year ago no longer work. But of dvd's made in crap countries, maxell is about the best.

Yea i didn't think it was the maxell's since i burned lots of games on maxell media and they still play fine. Im still gonna buy a pack of sony DVD-R today after i get off of work and burn nba 2k7 live 07 and fight night round 3 over on those to see if they work. Hopefully they do cause i dont know what else to do after that.
