Ok lately for some reason or another I have been noticing that my initial backup will work fine BUT in those instances where I have to back it up a second time I can an error in shrink (if i use another program to rip it it wil bypass the error that shrink gives me but the DVD will not play properly.

Here's what I have been doing. I use AnyDVD and initially I use Vob Blanker to rip it to my hard drive and then shrink it (if I don't use VOB first shrink gets an error because of some file inside somewhere) now on my first burn the backup plays fine, but after watching the DVD enough that I feel it is time to back it up again.... upon trying to re-rip it to my hard drive shrink gives me this error........ DVD Shrink encountered an errorand cannot continue it's operation. Invalid nv_pck: nv_vobu_ea

This is not due to the DVD being damaged but rather something in the files. Is there a program that can bypass this error on second rips because i have more than a few DVD's that this happens to. It seems to happen only to DVD's that required me to initially use Vob Blanker to bypass whatever it it was that I had to bypass.

Any help on this nagging problem would be greatly appreciated.

Just use Nero or any other burning utility to copy it disc-to-disc.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

lol.... thanks for that thoughtful answer guyrus. wow

without writing a book explaining my whole experience for you i have tried shrink, dvddecrypter, dvdfabdecrypter, and VobBlanker.

thanks but i was hoping for a little more thought out answer for a problem that i haven't experinced in the 4 years i have been ripping.

apparently there is some new coding or encryption they are putting in and was more hoping for an answer to that instead of try a new program which by the way I have been doing and which is alo why i came to a forum for help.

thanks anyway for all your help

sarcasm and this early in the morning.Well you moan about the program your using so an alternative would be to stop moaning and try something different.

nero recode ver 6.6.0.18
clonedvd
(both are burning apps that can recreate another backup straight after the 1st one with a click of a button as the image is still on your pc and can be still read. Also it should take 1/2 the time of the 1st one)

Happy now

He does have a good point about CD2 or Nero though. They check for and fix IFO and NAVPACK errors during the copy process. I have used both to correct poorly-authored (*cough*cough*PINNACLE*cough*) DVDs. I believe DVDFab Decrypter (NOT DVD-Decrypter, though that might help with other things) might do that too. DVDFab is a decent data-recovery tool, besides being a ripper, and most rippers do significant IFO and NAVPACK modification on-the-fly as a natural function of their ripping features. Your DVD apparently has a NAVPACK error.

Another alternative might be to reauthor the DVD completely with the existing VOBs using Nero Vision or Womble MPEG Video Wizard. That's more work and since the software packages in the preceding paragraph are available by free trial, I'd try them before making the leap into reauthoring.

Just a point for you, but this is a forum and you dont have the sole right to tell people whether they can or cant post to assist you.

I wasnt always guyrus and yes i have been on this site for a very long time.If you dont want people to answer your questions then simply dont post and we wont attempt to help you.Alternatively if you gave more thought to your question and was more flexible in your thinking you may find the solution i offered actually does work.We arent here to spoon feed you or did you think we were

So let me appologize for my quick reaction.

I did resolve my problem through this forum and it was simply this..... on my second rip from a backup I had to disable ANYDVD

problem resolved.

Apparently AnyDVD can be running 90% of the time, on first rips and every rip after that... it is on second rips (i am sure it is the new encryption they are putting in the newer movies) that it has to be closed.

Here are the steps I took to get second rips (from backups) to work.

Tokyo Drift

1. Rip with Vob Blanker (AnyDVD was running but not sure it had to be.

2. Shrunk with DVD Shrink (AnyDVD was running)

3. Burned with Nero

4. Re-re-ripped backup to HD using shrink (WITHOUT AnyDVD running)

5 Burned with Nero

6 plays fine in my DVD player.

As much as AnyDVD has done for me it created on big headache for the last few months and it was as simple as disabling it during re-rips.

Glad to see you got it figured out... in doing so, you taught me something I have never encountered, but will now have the answer if I ever do. Thanks

well for one thing if you are trying to make a backup of your backup you don't have to run it through shrink again, all you have to do is do a disk to disk copy, works everytime and you say you have been ripping for over 4 years, and you are having trouble making a backup from a backup you must be doing something wrong, the programs that work all the time are ashampoo, Blindwrite, Nero, you don't have to shrink them or remove the copyprotection cuzz you have already did that step when you made your first backup. hope that helps have a nice day and happy burning

I run it through shrink by force of habit... it not only shrinks and decrypts but acts as a ripping program also. disc to disc would work IF i didn't have AnyDVD running. i have 950 GB or storage so i don't bother with disc to disc.... moist of the time i just keep it on my HD but in those instances when i need room and have to delete it and put it back on......

my whole problem for the last few months has been the new copyright protection they have been putting in newer movies.... i disable AnyDVD and no more problems.

you should not have any problems, if you keep your AnyDVD updated, they keep up with most of all of the problems with the new types of problems with copyprotection, also you don't have to shrink or decrypt because it has allready been done and the reason that AnyDVD comes up is because you are running it through shrink, also just keep this in mind, K.I.S.S that meens keep it simple stupid, hope that helps good luck happy burning have a nice day
