I flashed my U10A to the DRU500A, I think the main advantage is that it is easier to find firmware upgrades.

so, I have recentely purchased a DW-U10a and (obviously) flashed it into a DRU500a...
I have just few question:
1) overburning is not supported? why?
2) what means "Error - INVALID FIELD IN PARAMTER LIST (052600)"? Nero CD Speed, label this as an error occurring during it's tests...

I have fairly recently purchased a U10a with firware version 1.1d
it burns dvd-r (Zero defex - Ritek) with no problems what so ever. My main concern is for future updates... is it still a one way street flashing the drive to believe its a 500a ??
Sony has quite clearly told me they will not support this drive (U10a) as it's up to whoever sold it !
Any comments greatly appreciated.. as I'm in two minds to flash or not & don't want to break something that is working... what further updates could benifit me though for flashing to the 500a ?
Cheers
Ps. My original Ricoh 5125a has now been with Ricoh for 7 weeks due to a scis target error on +r discs only not +rw !! great service hey !

back again..
I've just been searching the web and found this site....
http://www.ued.janis.or.jp/~jabawock/down.html
It's in Japanese but there is definitly a link to convert the 500a back to a U10a (1.1c)
has anyone else tried this ! (assuming the original conversion did not work)
Cheers

Guys,
I flashed my new DW-U10A to the DRU500A, and upgraded firmware to 2.0f. However, now when I try to open Nero, the PC completely crashes. It literally restarts. Nero worked fine prior to the upgrade!
The DVD is connected to my Abit IC7-G via the std. UATA IDE port, and there is nothing else on that chain. Also, Sandra sees the DVD drive as a Sony DRU500A now, and I can read my Encarta DVD.
What gives?

I may have solved it myself. As a DW-U10A you don't need to disable UDMA on the IDE channel. However, as a DRU500A Nero crashes if you don't.
Hmmmmmmmmm

I still have problems though.
Does anyone know how to revert back to the DW-U10A?

OK, after the step-back, hot do I get the FW to 1.1d? I think I may ask the dealer for a refund, or an upgrade to the true DRU-500A, and the DW-U10A needs to look exactly as before.

Bob, all you need to do is find a firmware upgrade for the U10a to revision F.
Have you tried the prog in the zip I posted to flash your drive back or did you use another?
