There are stores in the UK that are already taking pre-orders. I believe Gamestation is one.

I recently stopped by Gamestop and asked about pre-ordering a Wii and they told me that there is a managers meeting this week to discuss the pre-order situation. They dont want a repeat of the 360. To many pre-orders and not enough systems at launch. So there should be some news soon for pre-ordering here in the states.

Dont let the door hit you on the way out, beacause I dont want ass prints on my new door!

I was able to get a GC on launch day last year w/out a preorder, I don't see it being a problem for the Wii either, it may be cool and even better than 360 or PS3, but I don't think everyone knows it yet like we do. Except on these types of forums and G4, its not hyped up that much with the kind of people who would cause it to be sold out everywhere. Now, a week after launch day when everyone see's one, it may be a different story.

I cover my bases...
1)Xbox w/xecuter 2.6 solderless
2)Ps2 (slim) w/DMS4 Lite
3)Ps2 V7 w/DMS4 Lite and 200 Gig Maxtor HDD
4)GC w/qoob pro

yeah but the Wii and Gamecube or two different types of candy wayy different the Wii's launch is one of the biggest seen and fanboys are goin nuts the was a pre-order glitch on amazon that said they sold out in minutes. I think with the number of units being made you still should be able to wake up and go to a store that aint taken pre-orders and pick one up still if you get there early

Well then in this case, if they offer preorders, I will be sure to get one along with redsteel because I saw the video and it looks really kick ass. I plan on dropping about $600 that day for the console and some games and such.

This won't be as much of a hot seller as the PS3 on launch day, but it is still very likely shops could run out (especially as nintendo havn't yet announced how many units they will be providing) and as such will do the eBay rounds.

The PS3 is much more likly to do eBay, also don't forget that the PS3 isn't in Europe till March so there will be people (like me) who will want to import a console till then.

Ozzie Sony Exec: Xbox is Pricey and Wii Is Too
Make. Them. Stop. Speaking with Australian paper The Age, Sony's Michael Ephraim opens his pie hole and smack talks Wii and Xbox 360 pricing. When discussing the finer points of how much the Wii costs, Ephraim claims that with needed accessories "to enjoy" the console, the AUD $400 (US $298) Wii turns into about AUD $500 (US $372). Continuing, he says:

For this Christmas, I think that price point is still not family entertainment because AUD $500 is a lot to fork out, but we welcome the Nintendo heritage of gaming where they can appeal to a broader audience because long-term that is critical for the industry.
*Keep in mind next year the PS3 will retail in Australia for AUD $830 and AUD $999 (US $619 and $745).

And what would idiotic remarks about the Wii be without idiotic remarks about the 360 as well? Not idiotic remarks from a Sony exec, that's for sure! So... Ephraim said the 360 did "fairly well" at launch, but claims the 360 is not broad enough for mass market gaming. He adds:

I think their product offering is still not broad enough. The content is narrow and appeals only to a very core group. It's still pricey, and I'm sure Microsoft will do everything they can, but if you just look at the offerings from each format and the marketplace that we are now playing in, especially PlayStation 2, it has to be affordable because we are talking about mass-market and non traditional gamers.
He then goes on to say the Australian/Euro delay is no problem because "it won't have any impact at all" and that retailers are "very keen and excited about a March launch."

Ugh.

Sony PR, please put a muzzle on every single Sony exec until the PS3 launches, because their fountain of stupid is not helping the console. At all. Brian Ashcraft

i thought the ps3 would have to be expensive since they incorporated Blu-ray technology into it. blu ray players themself are expensive so why wouldnt the ps3 be? then again, xbox360 has hd, and the wii has neither.

i hope people realize or understand that movies and games will be on the BD format. people complain about sony's past judgements or experiences with their chosen formats, so this time around they incorporate their new format into their premiere game system, take a different approach and people still bitch. there is no win, win situation as it is impossible to make everyone happy. by incorporating Blu-ray with every system it helps keeps the costs down.

for one Blu-ray is sony's format, not to mention that not even m$ is going to utilize HD-DVD for gaming, let alone a dual layered disc. again i don't see the problem in sony's price and although some may be frustrated or upset over their pricing, most seem to still plan on buying the system when the price is dropped. game prices are resembling those of the 360 ($59.99).

so take this into consideration, even if the ps3 was $349.99 there still wouldn't be anywhere near the number of units to go around for everyone becuase lets face it, demand would be through the roof. so all the bickering is a bit premature because i am sure once sony has a hold on production and supply out weighs demand, there will be a price drop. there is no doubt that sony has more than enough support or fanbase to sell their system for the prices it will be for atleast one year. with sony shipping 400,000 units, do you really think there will be any units left on the shelf at the end of the day on the 17th? would it make a difference if they had 2 million units to go around? i think not...

just because you or even 600,000 other people feel the price is too high, sony still sold over 100 MILLION PS2s. so really your not even 1% of their marketbase....oh yeah, they sold over 100 MILLION playstations before that as well.

I signed up to be on a mailing list for Gamestop here in the United States to receive information about the Wii pre-order and received the email. It is a letter of caution that makes me now want to just wait until the launch day, then drive around the city and pick one up. There are tons of stores around me so I can choose between Target, Best Buy, and lastly Gamestop. There should be one in the Minneapolis area for me.

Think I'll stay away from Gamestop for this purchase.
