Alright, I downloaded the anime Angelic Layer(anime, gay, etc. whatever) and deceided to buy it when I found the box set for $30. Now I hate DVDs with a burning passion, they're large, and get damaged too easily, so when I (rarely) buy DVDs they get backed up into XviD immediately. The last rip I did was the Matrix Trilogy over a year ago, and it worked fine. I use DVDShrink to extract the VOBs onto my hard drive, and then I used Xilisoft DVD Ripper v2 to rip them into AVI. When I tried to rip these new DVDs the audio turned out fine, but the picture was jumpy every second or so. I tried to change the frame rate, encode rate, what optimizations to use for iDCT and resize, but nothing worked. The only time I can get it to not have a jump picture is when I set it to Force Progressive 24hz, but then the audio and video desynchronize whether or not the "Audio/Video Sych" is checked. I then reformatted and installed nothing but the codec, program, and essential drivers and the same thing happened. I then tried on my crap(lap)top, and had the same problem. The ripped VOB files play fine using Media Player Classic, but the .avi doesn't. Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Some useful? information:
-Athlon64 3200+
-1gb RAM
-GeForce 6200
-XviD(latest version)
-Xilisoft DVD Ripper v2 & v4 Platinum

Also, what do you reccommend for a VOB to AVI if Xilisoft is a bad one?

EDIT: Tried MPEG Mediator and it worked great, excelent video and audio, but I need something with support for embedding subtitles, any suggestions?

There's a small program which is worth a shot to see if you get a better result. It's called Mpeg Mediator and it's freeware. Nothing fancy- just select your VOB set from within MM, configure the Video/ Audio plugins (XviD and mpeg3) through the drop-down menu, and Convert All Frames. MM will output to a single, high-quality movie.

There's also a very easy to use resize feature for 'filling the screen' etc.
