Hi, I am trying to convert an AVI file to DVD MPEG-2. The AVI file has VBR MP3 audio and plays perfectly in every media player I can find.

Usually, I use VSO ConvertXtoDVD which is amazing, but when I try with this file, I get:
"Stream 0 has produced NO data (empty). Result may miss some stream(s).
Exception raised in conversion Thread with message "List index out of bounds (-1)""

I have also tried CCE SP, which says:
"acmStreamOpen() failed: error 512.
The wave format is 85"

And Nero Vision produces a DVD which is out of sync.

I am now trying to extract the audio to WAV and then use the WAV audio file with the original video to create a new file with CBR MP3 audio. I have extracted the audio to a WAV file, but when I try to save an AVI file using this audio, VirtualDub says:
"Error initializing audio stream decompression:
No installed audio codec could be found to decompress the compressed source audio.
Check to make sure you have the required codec."

First of all, the SOURCE audio is a WAV file, which as far as I know, is an uncompressed format. The TARGET file is MP3, for which I DO have the codec, and I have selected my bitrate from the VirtualDub "Compression" menu.

Anyway, all I want to do is watch this file on DVD - I can't believe I am having so many problems. Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Just a guess but open the file in GSpot and see what information it gives on the audio.

GSpot says the video is 23.976fps XviD, which I should have mentioned in my first post. For audio it says:
Codec - 0x0055(MP3, ISO) MPEG-1 Layer 3
Stat - Codec(s) installed
Info - 48000Hz 128 kb/s total (2 chnls) LAME3.95

I have managed to sort this out. The "Save WAV" feature in VirtualDub does not create a WAV file, it just demuxes the audio to an output file in THE SAME FORMAT as the source file. So, when I thought I was creating a WAV file, it was actually a VBR MP3 file with a .wav extension. Just a warning to other VirtualDub users (this is with 1.6.16).

After decompressing the mp3 file with LAME, I was then able to re-mux it with the original AVI and now everything is in sync.

However, this doesn't explain to me why this is the ONLY AVI file that I have not been able to convert to MPEG-2 with ANY application, without messing around with the audio first. And I know for a fact that other VBR MP3 AVIs have worked.

Just a few random questions here for anyone who knows:-
Is there such a thing as completely uncompressed video? What is the format/extension? MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are still compressed, right? How large would a 700MB XviD AVI file become if it was decompressed? Or a 120min DVD?
Do retail DVDs have variable or constant bitrates, and what is the maximum bitrate of a DVD - 8000kb/s (kilobits)?

Thanks

Hi there,

Most of those bugs, if not all, have been fixed on v2.1.3.160

Visit the VSO Website, and upgrade to the latest version please.

v2.1.1.xxx was awfull, lots of new bugs came out, since they used the latest build of ffmpeg and I guess it broke a lot of things...
