NEC ND-3550A - firmware options? newbie to this drive

I just bought an NEC ND-3550A dvd burner, been using cheapo lite-on for a while....

Anyway, I've seen some other firmwares floating around, is there any advantages to using these firmwares other than adding "booktype" (whatever that is)?

also, I can't seem to find an official updated firmware anywhere, does anyone have a link handy to get one?
