Problem with my Plextor 716A burning CDs

Until now, I've burned my CDs on an older Yamaha CRW-F1E. Using Plextools and burning onto Mitsui Gold CDs, I average about 1 C1 error/sec and I've never had a C2 error.
I've burned perhaps 500 CDs on the Yamaha.

Today, I decided to test my Plextor 716A DVD burner to see what it did with CDs. Until now, I've only used it to burn DVDs. It averaged 0.9 C1 errors/sec. but on 2 burns had a slew of C2 errors. (80-100) Again, the Yamaha had zero C2 errors.

I'm not exactly sure what causes C2 errors but it appears as though I should replace the Plextor. I'd appreciate any input and recommendations for a new burner. Kindly bear in mind that I'm not very savvy about the technical testing methods.

I'm wondering what burner to replace this with? There are SO many out there now that it is very intimidating.
