Hello everybody..I recently gave some advice to a friend who has been doing AVI to DVD conversions on her Acer LpTp..althow she has a Dell Optiva DskTP..I told her that using her LpTp was not a wise choice do to the CPU cooling limitations in LpTPs, I told her she could possibly damage her laptop, she didn't seem to think so..and concluded that the laptop was faster anyway....was there any logic to my reasoning about this..?? are Laptops OK for such long prossessor intense programing

It depends on a few things. Personally, I would not use a laptop for long duration high CPU intense tasks. If the heatsink has been kept clean (by removing it and cleaning the dust out of it) and the laptop sits on the proper surface (ie. not a pillow or something like that) it should be OK. But it will be running hotter tha normal. Laptop coolers are available (slab of aluminium to dissapate heat) to aid in cooling.
