I purchased a NEC 3540A Burner over a year ago, well 1 year and 2 months to be exact, it was all running fine until, when i selected to burn a Image File or DVD Video Files, its takes about 25-30minutes, i select 4x, which in past experience only takes about 15minutes, i have always burned that low, but i sort of thinking that the Burner is start die, so it maybe time to invest in a new one, but personally i was not sure if it was dieing or i was doing something wrong. Also if it is dieing, should i just buy another NEC 3540A or a Pioneer 111D, which seems to be popular, and Pioneer are quite reliable i think.
Well, i solved the problem my self, also thanks to Afterdawn as usual, what i did was there was another thread near down, asking about the same burner, so all i did was updated the firmware and thats it, it started burning at the speed i selected, which is great, i had Version 1.0.1, so updated to 1.0.4, so should be fine now.
-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.
Yeah i have always tried to use the best media i can, mainly Gigatain (MCC Dye), and Rivision (gone through 3-4 100 packs) is the latest one i have been using, usually if a particular media works well i will stick with it, and about the DMA guide i will do it tomorrow as its a little late, but will get it done ASAP.
