They are both the same. The only difference is, that every PS2 can read -R, and some have problems with +R. Also, for better compatibility it is advised to booktype +R to DVD-ROM if your burner supports booktyping, but with -R you don't have to booktype.
So if you're unsure which to get, then go for -R.

+R is better if you burner booktypes, because then the PS2 will see it as a DVD-ROM instead of a DVD+R. Otherwise I'd say -R is better.

The PS2 sees -R as DVD-ROM without the need to booktype, so that naturally makes -R better.
