I have 2 512mb corsair valueselect ram 3200 400 and 2 1gb gskill ram 3200 400 and they both have dual channel capabilities. if i put in all four sticks can i still run dual channel. i wasn't sure whether they were compatible because i have two pairs of different RAM. (I have four slots to put the RAM into.) Should I put one pair into 1-3 and other to 2-4?

When your machine POSTS it will usually tell you during the memory test whether you're running dual channel or not.

A lot of memory slots are color-coded - one size of memory in one color slot, another size in another color slot. Others might be labelled e.g. channel 0 and channel 1 - put one size in both channel 0s and the other in both channel 1s.

Otherwise you need to look at your motherboard manual to find out if your memory sticks are in the right slots.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

I took your color coded advice as one pair was purple and the other yellow. I'm only getting 2.75GB worth of RAM. I should be getting at least 3.0GB?

No, it's not a surprise at all. Many motherboards do have an issue at either 3GB or 4GB in which they don't utilize quite all of it, so you may not even POST 3GB. A lot of RAM gets reserved for various things, especially if you have a built-in video card - this is your AGP aperture. Most motherboard manufactuers will usually tell you about these things in their manuals, though not always.

Overclocking has nothing to do with increasing memory size.

Is this your mobo?
http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Products/Pr...ailName=Feature

Strangely, it would appear that 1Gb memory modules are not officially supported; Page 20 of the manual only lists upto 512Mb modules as being certified by EC for this motherboard, and then only by certain manufacturers. Still, Corsair is good stuff.

At any rate, basically, you need to have identical memory modules in the DDR1 and DDR2 slot, and/or identical modules in the DDR3 and DDR4 slots. I couldn't find which slots are labelled what.

Still, I don't think what you're seeing with the reduced memory is that unusual.

doublew checkign this is the mobo right?

http://www.bigbruin.com/reviews05/review...cskn1sli&file=1

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135203R

To me this sounds like a ram mobo comparability issues that might be fixed by going up 1 or down 1 on the bios.

Jay05
the bios is the onboard config for the mobo
It tell the drivers whats what and the drivers tell windows what is what is also helps with stability as well as compatibility to hardware

Since you are a noob and dont have 2 pcs you might want to get 3 floppy disc's for this 1 for the new bios one for old bios and one for the current bios ,flashing a bios is safe but there are to many small changes to screw up and have to reflash it thus why backuping up the bios is a good idea.

Is anyone fimauilr with his mobos bios they tend to change now and then,...oh dear.....its winflash only....

Ok..forget what I said above.....win flashers are noob friendly but there is always the off chance the newer bios might dislike your ramm or something and no boot to windose its rare but can happen frist off you need to get into the bios and tell me if you see load fail safe mode and load performance default or soemthign like it I can write you out a lsit of what to do if the bios cocks up and wont let windows boot ,you do know how to get into safe mode right?

I dont mean to worry you but I want someone to know if theirs a 1% chance soemthign I have explained will go wrong.

plus we have other members here who can help translate WTF I am saying :P

I can write more simply and clearly but I need you to check
load fail safe mode and load performance default or soemthign like it in the bios, to get into the bios you must hold detlet or F1 during boot up for a minute start with deelete only a few odd brands use F1

As ZippyDSM pointed out, the most probable cure for this problem, if there is one, is a BIOS update. I meant to point that out the other night. The BIOS and a flasher for it should be available somewhere on ECS' site.

I'm very computer illiterate. That is the right motherboard. I don't even know how to get into my BIOS. I've tried switching the RAM to see if I can get better performance but no success :(

um i got through the zip and ran CPU-Z program.
What am I looking for here???
I see CPU Cache Mainboard Mobo SPD About

It seems like my RAM in runnig 3072 mbytes

cas# catency 2.5
Ras# to cas# delay 2
Ras# precharge 2
Cycle time 5
Bank cycle time 7

One thing I noticed is that my max bandwidth under SPD is running at 200mhz.

I have 1 gb corsair valueselect and 2gb gskill 3200 but shouldn't it be at 400 mhz not 200 mhz?

I still don't know why I'm not getting 3 GB, and only 2.75.GB

i didn't understand your first question with the corsair.
I have 2 x 512 MB Corsair ValueSelect which is in Slot 1 + 2
I have 2 X 1GB G.Skill which is in Slot 3 + 4

So I go into Bios and download everything in there? Just double checking...
