Is there any software out there that I can backup my PS2 games and not need swap magic or any chips? I have a copy of a game I bought off of Ebay and it plays great and it is a backup (yeah he ripped me off, sorta). So if there is any suggestions out there please feel free to post.
Thanks

You CANNOT play PS2 backups without a modchip or Swap discs. Period!
Whatever you bought off eBay, it certainly wasn't a backup if it boots on your PS2, unless your PS2 is already modded.

Ok two questions then, How can I tell if mine has been modded? Second, the disc that I recieved off of ebay is a PS2 disc but it is plain silver on the top and the standard blue on the bottom, so is it a demo?
Thanks

the only way to tell if its been modded is that youll have to open it up and take a look if there are any modchips attaches to the motherboard, if a dms4 modchip has been installed then try pressing square while the ps2 is booting, if it takes you to the dms4 menu screen its been moddedm, if it doesnt then its either not modded or has a different modchip in it. anyway where did u get your ps2 from.

It does sound like a promo copy. The seller should have mentioned this to you but normally the disc will contain the entire game.

Blue bottom = PS2 CD based game, and I agree, sounds like a promo.
Either that, or someone's scrapped off the label, which would be consistent with a dodgy person trying to dupe you on eBay.

Ok if its not modded how hard is it to mod it myself. I am pretty knowledgable with electronics. Also does anyone have an extra mod chip they could part with. Preferrably relativly cheap. I could maybe work out a trade for some games or something.
Thanks

you can find older mods like magic3.1 or duo2 for $20-25. they're not the most fully packed with features mod chips but they do the job as far as playing backups. As for the soldering job, have a look at some diagrams for whatever mod it is that you want to install on whatever model ps2 you have.

Unless you've done alot of soldering before with a needlepoint soldering iron on circuit boards forget it. The diagrams on the web make the connections look big, they are in fact tiny. You'll end up with a fried motherboard and a PS2 useful as only a novelty doorstop.
If you want to do some modding yourself then just get a fliptop and some swapmagic discs or alternatively send you console away to someone to install a chip for you.
