I heard that it does and after doing some reading I just wanted to see if its true or not. From what I read, a lot of people say it doesn't and a lot of people say that it does.
So here is my question:

Does playing backup CD's or DVD's damage your PS2 and if so, then why?

Thanks!

P.S.
I am talkin gabout a V14 PS2.
Is there some media that causes less/more damage to your PS2? Anyone have any advice on the best media to use?

It will eventually wear your laser out, particularly cd based backups, as the laser works that bit harder to read burnt backups than it does to read store bought pressed discs.
But you can lessen the effects by using the best quality media.

Use forum search in future though, as this has been covered many times before.

Are Ritek G05 8x DVD-R good enough, or should i use something even better?

I used to use Tuff Disc and i have noticed the diffrence.

But is there still any better?

ritek g05 are good.i heard they are 2nd class media but it seems to work for most people i just use TDK because they're first class media so i follow the guide.but some people have success with 4th grade but the consequence is the laser burning out.your choice!

Really? Hmm, don't want to say 'I told you so', but I TOLD YOU SO! lol

And, there is NO better than RITEK G05 8x DVD-R. I've tried quite a lot of brands in my time, and none give the same success rate/longevity as G05's.
The best media thread is outdated. RITEK should now be 1st class, and many of the 1st class media in there should be moved down.

I now understand the diffrence, before i asked you i thought DVDs were DVDs all the same,

Cheers Ace, sorry i wus an ass but you were right lol

Ritek G05 8x DVD-R are proper good, someone should do an update on the best media thread cause these DVDs are under rated.

ace1uk the best media thread is not outdated it is tried and tested by many many experts and people who really know what they are talking about, you can test it yourself, put each of the disks through Nero cd dvd speed and it will give you a quality score, im sure youll find that the grade 1 media will have a substancially greater quality score than grade 2. eg iv done it myself and verbatims gace me something like 95 and riteks gave me 65 out of 100 and if you dont want to take my word for it then you can se the search button as many other people have also tried this and displayed there results on the forums, if you dont trust the quality scoring system then why dont you check the pif pofs errors, youll find that grade 1 media will give the least amount of pifs and pofs, try it yourself, burn the same image with the same burner and comp onto a verbatim and then do the same for a ritek, and youll see the pif pof difference. so next time before yoyu give your 50pence worth make sure you know what your talking about because i am sick and tired of reading threads about you commenting that riteks are the best media in the world and that the manufacturer of ritek should be made king of england

Ritek GO5 are the best I have to admit.
I have tried princo's and i have used them for awhile and also ritek G05's the ritek's i have to admit didnt fail while burning as much as princo did but my store dosent stock anymore Princo's so its all Ritek now but I did buy a 25 pack of Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8x 2 weeks ago as everyone and the best media thread said they were "1st class" Yes "1st class" I burnt Enthusia Professional Racing onto one and the oppenin movie stutered really bad then the race starts smooth but as soon as you crash it would stuter and it took awhile t load while on the ritek's a burnt the game 2 months ago and it still works smoothly I also tried it again on the Taiyo Yuden and it did the same crap and I thought how stupid am I for paying $18au for 25 of these discs when i pay $22au for a Pack of 50 riteks

it doesnt matter what the best media is and whats the worst, fact is the playin copied games puts strain on your lazer and will burn it out

But some media puts more strain than others, burning out the laser in less time, so media is a big issue if you want your ps2 to last as long as possible.

Is there any diff from using the same brand of a DVD-R or DVD+R that would wear out the laser any faster?

The main reason for studdering games is you people are burning the game too damn slow. Use quality media and burn at half the media's rated speed. And don't multitask while you're burning.
