yeah i have the remote, and the xbaox plays any other dvd just fine. It is only the lord of the rings one, it say, you must insert a game, dvd, or music cd... what now?

I believe Lord of the Rings Requires a dvd decoder to access any of the material.. your computer dvd program should have it but the program that runs dvds in the xbox isn't compatable.. hmm

An odd one it is. I have the 5 disc set also and it plays just fine in the x-box. Is it all the disc or just one in particular? I have an x-box and a ps2 in the house and found that on a regular basis the ps2 needs a trip to the shop for a blast of air to clean out the drive. This is usually the result of not recognizing or poor playback of a disc. Sometimes the dust limits the travel of the laser and it cannot reach portions of the disc and the blast of air clears it out. I've never had this scenario on the x-box (yet) but the ps2 probably get used significantly more. Good luck.

yea, the xbox can play movie backups.. however if you use neroburn to burn movies, make sure you go to COMPILATION INFO and Uncheck the JOILET option or just use recordnow max when burning the movie..

hope that helps
