I made a back up of Subsistence disc 2 like I always do. I changed the DNS code with win dip and burnt the image. For some reason I cant get online with the game. It brings me to the please insert a ps2 or psone format disc screen. This never happens with my other back up online games. Im using a swap magic 3 disc and burning with DVDdecrypter on Sony DVD+R Accucore ver. 1.3 discs. What do I have to do to make it work?

Anyone? Anything? I don't understand why all my other online backups work perfectly but this one always gives the red screen.

Well after thinking on it for a while I figured I'd try to boot swapmagic (which is DVD v2.0) and then zoneloader. So I tried it and poof! But it still makes no sense to me. After looking up my media quality I found that it is pretty good so I don't think its that but I did notice that it is impossible for me to change the book type in DVDdecryter to say DVD-ROM. I have a Philips 8801 DVD+-R/RW which is really a BenQ 1650. When I try to change the book type it says sucess but it doen't really change, it still says DVD+R on the main screen. Is there anything I can do to make it so I dont have to swap 2 discs?

Ok, I came home from college today to pick up my new swap magic discs (v3.6). Do you think that will make the difference and let me play the game online without the need of a second boot disc? Also, could it be that I need to use a DVD-R as opposed to the +R I've been using?

Nice quadruple post! Read the forum rules, and don't multi post again plz!
If you really do have the NTSC version then...
It uses a double-elf boot for online, so you need to use CDLoader's DVD boot method (or DVDLoader if you're lazy) to combat this as an extra swap with Swap Magic.

I wouldn't have to multi post if I could edit my own posts. But anyways, I get it to work with zoneloader and my 2.0 swap magic but now that I have 3.6 do you think it will work better and not make me need to boot zone loader as well? Also would I have better luck with -R's as opposed to +R's?

Sorry bud, I didn't download the game I made a back up copy. Hope that clears things up a bit. It is without a doubt NTSC.

You can edit your own posts! What do you think the edit (paper & pencil) icon in the top right of all your posts is for?
Try actually looking for things & use a bit of common sense!
Yes, -R discs are better, and I said CDLoader, NOT ZoneLoader, they are very different. You might still need it even with SM3.6, but try with 'Special Boot' on the SM menu 1st.
(Oh look! I edited my post!)

I was under the impression you could get better results with a DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM than with a DVD-R...

You were given the wrong impression then.
All PS2s can read -R, but some have problems reading +R.
DVD+R require booktyping to DVD-ROM before burning & your burner may not support booktyping. DVD-R do not need booktyping, as they are automatically recognised as DVD-ROM. So -R are much easier to use, and you won't have to worry about your PS2 not liking them.
The -Rs still need to be of a good quality though, like RITEK G05, Sony, Verbatim etc..

Hey bud I think you wanted to say newb not noob. And no Im not a newb to the whole PS2 back up scene, I've been doing it for 2+ years now.
Anyway Ace, I know you said CD loader but if you had read before, I already got it to work by using a second boot disc (it really makes no difference what other boot disc I used CD loader or zoneloader) my question was is there any way around using a second boot disc (be it CD loader or Zone)? And you seemed to give an answer of sorts, yes with 3.6 I may still need to use a secondary disc. Thank you, and sorry for being ignorant to the edit post button. Glad you pointed it out to me. :>

I've actually used -Rs, +Rs and booktyped +Rs with pretty much the same great results everytime, on my PS2. What gave me that impression were several guides about backups on these boards - they all claim you can get beter compatibility with a DVD-ROM booktyped DVD+R than with a -R.
But you're saying a DVD-R is automatically recognized as a DVD-ROM... If that's the case, then howcome some burners can booktype DVD-Rs to DVD-ROM? What's the point? (Again, info from these boards)

Update: Swap Magic 3.6 runs the game on a +R with no problems. I can connect to the internet and play like normal. Solved.
