Hey guys, I got a v5 ps2 with dms 4 ezi. I use TDK DVD-R 16x currently and my ps2 makes alotta loading noises as well as takes time to load. I hear TDK is good stuff so would the TY 8X from supermedia store (the plain one w/o print) be radically better?

Well TY disks are better than TDK, period. Even their 8x disks TYG02/YUDEN000T02 vs 16x TDK.

They shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentance. Taiyo Yuden is the best. TDK made good cassette tapes, but their dvds just don't get it.........

What's the BEST TY to get? Or maybe some other brand? I want the absoulte top of the line media, but not if its TOO expensive. I can get it if its reasonable. Please tell me where to get it and the media code please :D

Also, if you buy Sony +R media, that's made in Japan, it will be Taiyo Yudens. It will say on package, in small print (near the bar code), where it's made.
Good luck!

And if you are in UK try SVP.
http://www.svp.co.uk
They have Verbatim (TY) and some TY's I think.

The codes you want to look out for are...
8x DVD+R = YUDEN000T02
16x DVD+R = YUDEN000T03
or
8x DVD-R = TYG02
16x DVD-R = TYG03

I definitely avoid TDK.

Staple's have sony on sale.Spindles of 50 for $13

Look for the -1x-16x sony. They'll code Ty-G03 on the japanese spindles. They'll also have a white octagon foam spacer on top of the spindle. The taiwanese sony are decent, but they'll have either a white/round foam spacer or round gray spacer.Look at the spacer, then make sure they say Made in Japan on the yellow label.

Verbatim is also top notch media. Same Advanced Metal AZO dye, just like taiyo yuden.

Online: Visit rima.com, meritline.com, and supermediastore.com. They have genuine ty,and 1 of them will have the cheapest price for them. A lot of other sites will sell fakes. The Ty-g02/g03/etc MID code can easily be faked. Genuine taiyo yuden media has batch numbers on the dye side of the disc. Last I heard, the batch number can't be faked.

You may order the -8x and they send the -16x. No biggie. All are high quality media.

Yeah, what saugmon said!
For +R, TYs or Sony. For -R, Tys only......... :o)

What burner do you have? Is there a specific reason for wanting -Rs?

None of the Sony +R disks are TY, whether they are MIJ or MIT.

I bought a 50 pk. of Sony +R 8X from Staples, a week or so ago, and they ARE Taiyo Yudens! Here is the info on them......

These are MIJ Sonys. Every MIJ Sony +R disc I've seen were Taiyo Yudens.

Not the 16X +R
Whether MIJ or MIT, they have same ID, and are not TY

You didn't say 16X. You said.......

......which is wrong. I've never used 16X media, so I don't know about it. I may give it a try sometime.

I didn't specify 8X either. 8X has been all I've used (except 4X), so I tend to take it for granted, when I talk about media. Since I've never used 16X media, it doesn't even enter my mind.

Im my part of the country there is no 8X Sony media for sale. All Sony media is 16X, no matter which retailer you go to. Pardon me for not knowing slower media still for sale in you're location.

Don't worry about it. No harm done.
You had made a blanket statement. Just as you should have said 16X, I also should have said 8X, in my statement. We both did the same thing, sorta, and should be more specific.
Don't worry about it. We got it straight............
We both know better next time. :o)

I don't think the -Rs are Taiyos. I can't swear to it though. I don't use the -Rs. I used to, but discovered booktyping, which only works on +Rs. They're all I've used since.

Seems like someone reported that -R Sony's coded as Sony or MCC. Can't remember for sure.

Staple's:

The 1x-16x dash r sony, MIJ,and with the white octogon spacer will yield Ty-g03. I got a spindle sitting here, but my local staples has been out for a month or so.

They've been out of the 1x-8x +r Yuden000-T02 in the 50 pks,but did get a bunch of 25 pks the last time I checked. They cost more than the same 50 pks taiwanese sony that were on sale.
