Question about setting up Xvid settings in VirtualDub

I just want to say that I think this site has some really good guides here as far as I'm concerned and I hope that I can find some help here concerning my problem.

I regularly re-encode my fansubbed anime and Japanese/Korean/Chinese live-action shows using the latest version of VirtualDub along with the resize filter to get rid of the overscan effect so I can play them on my TV in conjunction with DubMan but lately I've been having problems in that the finished outputted files with the resize filters used on each file have ended up being bigger than the original version!

I believe it's something to do with bitrate or something like that but I don't know what settings or profile I need to go into or use to set everything up.

If anyone can tell me what I need to do to get the outputted files around the same size as the original or smaller with the resize filter being used, I'd be really grateful.

To get the same size, you need to set the same bitrate as the original. Also I wouldn't recommend using VDub to resize. AVISynth would be better.

Thanks for the advice, celtic_d. Why would you recommed AviSynth over VirtualDub when it comes to resizing? [filter wise I take it?]

Faster and better quality due to the fact that you can stay in the same colourspace rather than converting to RGB24.

That does sound promising but I'm concerned about how to set up AviSynth to work with VirtualDub as the files that I work with usually come in a variety of sizes plus I usually batchcreate the outputted files in VirtualDub via DubMan.
