Okay, I've been reading up on dual-booting Linux and XP but I've never partitioned or dual-booted before. About 3/4 of the stuff I've read says that either the data on my harddrive would be hosed or that I would need the xp boot disc. Is this all actually true or will I need to backup my entire HD to disc since my Windows boot CD is out of reach (buried in a storage shed 5 hours away)?

Also, thoughts on favorite partition software? I hear lots of good things about partition magic.

Oh, already have SuSE10.1 discs and I'm not new to Linux, just trying to make it so I don't have to make a 20 minute drive to campus everytime I need to do some homework. If it matters

i recommend that you get a like 40 GB hard drive or something solely for linux, save the partitioning.

You will always needa make a backup of your hard drive before this sort of thing, however, if you do things properly sort thing you will not need the backup.

i personally dont trust 'non-destructive' partition resizing software, however i also hear that partition magic would be best.

any other questions?
