Last time Best Buy had these Fuji DLs on sale I grabbed one. They work fine in all the computers and regular DVD players except for my little portable player. Go figure??? Verbatim DLs work in everything... Why are there so few brands of DLs? And why is only one (Verbatims) "good"?

Good question. They're harder to manufacture, for one thing. Probably more important is that the price was kept so high for so long because they were the highest-capacity media widely available. Now, with BD and HD hitting the market (the one positive outcome of these formats), it's helping to drive the DL price down. That, plus more people getting DL drives, I think, will encourage more manufacturers to make DL discs. Unfortunately, most of those manufacturers make garbage and I don't know if that's really a good thing.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Hmm anyone know of a place to get 8x TYs or Verbatims for the same deals as the 16x? You'd think they'd be cheaper but I guess they aren't because they're still in but less popular. My Lite-on has an 8x max write speed so Fujifilm MIJ 8x DVD+Rs are working far superior to the Verb DVD+R 16x.

I hate Rebates!
In fact, I would rather wait till Best Buy or Office Max runs these for $12.99 for each 50 pack spindle. Rebates Suck!
I am betting these will be on Sale at Best Buy this weekend for $12.99 again. We'll see if I am correct soon enough.

Great!
Thanks for the Head Up Jasper! I had a "Gut Feeling" Best Buy would run Verbs on Sale this coming week. 25 for $6.99 is not bad at all. $12.99 for 50 is better, but I'll definitely get some 25 packs. Verbs are Great!
