Hi everyone, i would like to know your thoughts on the following please.
I live in the UK, and compared to places such as the US, prices here for components are much more expensive. I've been doing research on the web and have found amazing prices in the US.
I am going to New York 26th December this year for a week, and have been thinking about getting my components out there.
Would there be a compatibility problem? i always thought that most components are shipped from the US anyway.
Also, i've been thinking, what if a component were to turn faulty? could i just send them to the manufacturer in this country and expect a refund. I know this can be different with RAM?
Please all advice is considered and taken on board.
The only things that would be a problem for you to do that with would be things like DVD drives, but even then you can still set the reigon. I would see no problem with purchasing parts from a US vendor. Also you may want to look into possibly buying a prepaid credit card with usd, that way if there is a problem they can recredit the card for example were you to return it.

The only components i will (hopefully) be buying when i'm in NY is a mobo, cpu and RAM.
The mobo is the Asus P5W DH DELUXE WIFI AP - about £20-£30 cheaper in US
The CPU is the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - about £50 cheaper in US
The RAM - i don't really know, but would like to get DDR2 667mhz or 800mhz - still cheaper in the US
So altogether from buying in the US i'm saving probably about £100
I don't want a top of the line PC, just something that won't outdate fully for a couple of years. Any advice on a different mobo/cpu or type of RAM will be great also and fully appreciated.
Oh and 1 more thing... From buying these components abroad, if anythin went wrong back here with them in the UK, do you reckon i would just be able to return it to the manufacturer here and get a replacement or what?
Hi!I'm not a big expert on pc but from your above specs,your pc will already be a top of line one,mostly with that core 2 duo processor together with the Asus mobo.The core 2 duo,from what i've heard is the best you can get but to really exploit it to the max you also need good components to work together with it,just like the Asus mobo that you mentioned,for the ram,get good branded ones so that you won't need to worry about any problem(compatibility or manufacturing defect).
However my thoughts have changed, and i may not buy abroad. just because friends of mine and people on other forums have suggested just the difficulty of replacing a component if it is faulty. I will therefore not be buying a motherboard out there. I will most likely just get RAM out there as i find it is much cheaper than here.
