Recode 2.3.1.8 Ignores Target Size

I've been trying to get the Nero 7 version of Recode to make Nero Digital AVC files to play on my XBMC but it seems that no matter what I set the target size (1 CD, etc.) to or what I set the bitrate to it makes the same large files from a DVD - usually between 3 and 4 gigs. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm downloading the newly released version to see if that helps but I'm not terribly hopeful.
