DVD-R Won't Play Properly on my Drive

So one of my friends in Japan just sent me a DVD-R full of mp3s of songs we did together back in the day. However, when I try to play them through my DVD+RW drive, it freezes up. Half of the files seem to transfer over, but the latter half just freeze. He told me he checked it on his computer and they all worked fine. I'm thinking this might be due to the difference in countries...but I can't pinpoint why that would matter (perhaps if it was a DVD movie w/ a specific region code).

Any help would be great!

P.S. This is my drive: Lite-ON DVD+RW SOHW-8025

Well your drive doesn't support -r disks. There's no way to get around that apart from buy a new drive...
