Hi everyone.
First time user here.
I'm in the process of buying a new computer and I'm having a local shop put together one for me. They're good at what they do, have decent prices and have a good reputation for service, but they are too busy to be answering all questions everytime one pops into my head. They've answered about 500 now..........I'm really testing them I think - they have been patient with me.

I have chosen to run my home theatre system (surround speakers)through the computer instead of buying computer speakers. The Motherboard is a MSI K9N PLATINUM BOARD with AMD Athlon-64 Dual Core 4600. The Audio card has an optical connection. I prefer to use an optical connection while using my home system now - even over my 6 channel dvd-audio setup, I feel the optical setting is better. I'm really new at this computer stuff - so without risking the 504th question to my local 'computer-builder-guy' I thought I'd try it here:

Is it as easy as plugging the optical cord into my audio card and reciever if I want to run my computer audio through my receiver? I mean - is it just like plugging a dvd player in?

The sound cards I've used use 3.5mm plugs (as do most if not all)

Look into the X-Fi cards with the front I/O panel.

Hope this helps. BTW you need to get at least the X-Fi Platinum to get the front I/O panel.

Hi to everybody!

if your sound card has an opticle out it will be a case of just plugging it in both ends (pc and amp) and away you go
