I've backed up 2 ps2 games using Verbatim DVD-R's @ 1x using IMG Burn, and both have resulted in bad load times, faulty audio, and freezing.

I heard Verbatim was some of the best media, but it's like I'm using old Memorex crap.

What do you all recommend?

I would recomend you burn the disc at 4x or half the recomended speed. So if the disc are 4x or 8x then burn at 4x. Never go below 4x. If they are 16x then burn at 8x. You can have bad burn results by burrning to slow.

You could also have a weak laser in your PS2 that might be going out. The laser has to work harder when reading a burned disc. So even if comercial PS2 games work with no problem it dosent necesarly mean burned DVD's won't.

Verbatim is good media, you may just be burning too slow @1x. I suggest you try burning at 4x and see if it makes a difference.

Note: I also suggest you make sure your burner has the current firmware installed, you can check here if an update is available, just enter the model# in the search field.

Imgburn can also be used to check for you as well as display the firmware currently installed.

Here's a guide that may prove useful when using imgburn;

What type of burner are you using?

99% of all problems are between the computer and the chair.

I recently had the same problem. I had problems with freezing and long load times with my Verbatim Dvd-R's. But I went to my Taiyo-Yuden DVD-R 8x (burned at 4x) and it worked flawlessly. Verbatim is great media (especially for movie backups) But I find that TY's work best on my PS2.

I'm using a Toshiba SD-R6012, with the most recent firmware available.

I'll try again at 4x, see if that makes a difference, much thanks to all who replied, it normally takes days for a reply on here.

Verbatim is very good media but I think their +r is better than their -r. Try +r and booktype them dvd-rom (oops forget that since I don't think your drive is capable of bitsetting). For -r media , I would suggest TY's. Verbatim dvd+r's are all I use and prefer over all other media.

Good points on the burn speed. May be that you're burning too slow. Try 2x or 4x. Normally I would say never burn slower than 4x but ps2's are different than movies.

You may need to update you burner's firmware or it may be time for a new burner.
