Hello there,
I am having serious problems with my dvd drive. I have a Dell 6400 with the above drive installed and I think my problems come from the software I installed. I tried Roxio Suite 9 and then discovered that Nero seemd to be the burner's favouite. I had difficulty getting Roxio off my system despite running Roxio Zap and I installed Nero 7 to try.
I only really want to burn video clips from my video camera and after much trial and error I discovered that I could do this without additional software. My camera came with Ulead 3.5(old but I do not need to convert my files to DVD compliant files, it does this for me).
In my frustrations to get both these software off my system I may have deleted something I should not have! Does this sound plausible? I essentially did searches for Roxio and Nero and deleted what I could find! I also deleted the Sonic software that came pre-installed on my laptop. This may seem extreme but I was frustrated and the device was not working properly and as you can probably tell I am not computer savvy!
I have run a system restore but that did not seem to work and have used Roxio Zap and Nero clean up tool and yesterday ran CCleaner which seemed to get rid of the unwanted dlls(I do not really know what these are!). However my drive seems to not reading very well, it cannot read an installation disk for my mobile phone but my desktop computer can just fine, and I have burns error in Ulead; it does play DVD's though. In device manager it says it is working properly but I know it is'nt. Also on the My Computer screen it says in details that it is a CD Drive rather than a DVD drive which seems odd.
Any suggestions?? I know I have been pretty vague here but it is because I have no idea what else to do. Should I do another system restore now I have run CCleaner? I am reluctant to do much more as I realise I am probably digging myself into a bigger hole!
I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Andrew
