Hi folks - I have ben using DVD Cloner to back up my DVDs and I find it very easy to use - pretty much one click does it all. However I have noticed that it doesnt work with a lot of DVD's and also some of the ones that are backed up are poor - ie there is a gap between the volume and the pictures like a badly dubbed film. I also read on here that there people only have bad things to say about it, so.... what to do now

What I am looking for is a relatively simple way of backing up DVD's. A lot of content here is about "ripping" - does this mean effectively copying them onto your hard drive? Are they still in DVD format? Can I copy them onto a blank DVD with most ripping software or do I need seperate software.

A lot of people suggest RipIt4me with DVD Decrypter and FixVTS. Do I also need something now to copy on to a blank DVD? Would AnyDVD and CloneDVD do the same thing. I'd just like to get a definite way of doing it and delete all the other crap software on my pc.

Sorry if this is a very basic request and thanks in advance for your help

Here is a guide using DVDFab Decrypter if you want to keep it free...

...you will need DVD Shrink to compress you files after the rip...

...and finally Imgburn to burn your video files...

Thanks for that - the screenshots are particularly useful. Just one quick point to clear up - when I have ripped the DVD onto my hard drive and want to get it onto a regular blank DVD+R or -R, do I first need to used Imgburn to create a single ISO file and then burn this on, or can I just click on the folder that contains all the VOB etc files that have been ripped and burn these directly onto a blank DVD using Imgburn?

Cheers again

Rip to HDD first using DVDFab Decrypter....

Use DVD Shrink if the contents of your VIDEO_TS folder is larger than 4.4 gigs...if less than 4.4 gigs, open Imgburn and create an ISO on your HDD via build mode and then choose the MDS file for burning in write mode.
