OK so I like DVD+R, and I usually pick up sony 50 pack (cake boxed), made in Japan, 1x-8x. and all is good.

NOw I can't find any 1x-8x the only speeds I can find are 1x-16x, but i didnt pick any up. I can stilll find some that are "made in Japan". BUT how does this 16x opposed to 8x affect the disc and burning? Like is there any main difference that make 8x better than 16x? And if 8x is better why can't I find any? thanks for the anwsers.

16x disks come out to follow on 16x drives. If your drive doesn't support 16x burning then you'll have to look harder for your disks. There is no real bonus as it's not advisable to burn over 4x anyway and some people still prefer 8x disks. However good 8x disks seem harder to come by nowadays so you'll have to look a bit harder, but don't settle for crap 8x disks when you can buy decent 16x disks andf burn at 8x or 4x.

As most TY users would say they prefer the 8x media over the 16x media, BUT, If those 16x media are made in Japan then it is way better than any other media that is 8x but made in Taiwan(except for verbs) or any other country, like ripper said just burn them at 8x if the max is 16x.

I use 16x max Verbatims and 8x max TYs and never had one bad disk.

Those sweet Japanese sony accucore +1x-8x are extinct in my realm. Those are some awesome Yuden000-T02 media. Same goes for most of the quality 8x speed media-being phased out.

Sony +1x-16x accucore are made in both taiwan and japan-using the MID code of SonyD21. Pretty decent media. You'll notice the foam spacer on the top of the spindle will be round-and either gray or white. My scans look better when burning these at 4x. My 8x burns look perfect on stand alone players-but more PIE/and PIF errors.

Reports of Yuden000-T03 on some of the Japanese spindles of the same +1x-16x accucore.

Now the sony dash 1x-16x: Ty-G03 on the japanese spindles-with the white/octagon foam spacers. Excellent High Quality stuff.

Let's hope your burner's firmware can handle the newer 16x speed media.

That MIJ 8x Sony is extinct in my area too!

I agree 100% but if it's not on sale then I won't buy it simply because TY bought online is cheaper. Now when Sony (on sale) gets around 45 (or so) cents a disc I'll buy it but not over 50 cents a disc no way as Supermediastore sells the silver/matte inkjet printable for 44 cents in a 100 pack. Still I'm buying the TY silver/matte 8x at 38 cents per disc before shipping as I don't burn over 8x anyway so I might as well use the 8x TY media while it lasts.
