Hello everyone. I have a confession to make.. this is my first post here - ever. Great now that weve got that out of the way, I was just wondering...

I heard that Mac is now offering Intel Processors and that you can run XP on a Mac?

Whats the point? If the UNIX operating system is supoedly supperior to XP, why would they do that?

And would a Mac with XP not just be a PC?

whats the dif?

best, M/

I've learned the trick to getting to 30 cups of coffee a day is that you MUST START EARLY! Be pro-active - dont wait till the last few minutes to jam in a few more cups. Time yourself. You should be at 15 at least by noon! Let me know if you need more help in accomplishing this goal ;~)

I actually have xp on my mac. It is awesome. You can switch between the two in a start up menu and then use that operating system. You are not running both at the same time. It sucks though cuz if you partition your windows portion of the hdd to small, you tend to use up that partition very fast. And you cant repartition without buying a program

Having just bought a G5 MAC, I thought nothing could be better than a MAC. Surprisingly, I found XP more user friendly. MAC is very different and the fact it recieves next to no viruses is good and doese not need as much patching as XP is good. The fact I cannot get a £1220 printer ot work on it is neither here nor there.

The procesor doesnt seem to make it much faster to be honest... it just feels cleaner...UNIX is not supprior to XP, it is just not Windows so less likely tobe bugged (UNIX is one of the few operating systems never to have a virus)

thats what I was contemplating - a G5 Mac - mainly for film and video work - a big plus about the low virus count!

Ive heard they are more stable with video files?

dident the G5's come with Dual Quad processors?

does that mean there are 2x2 -- (4) processors working?

second, does that mean if they say its operating at 2ghz for example, are you getting 2 x 4ghz?

I recently bought a dual core PC @ 2.2ghz 90% happy with it performance wise but - for instance, I recently converted a vhs tape to dvd. In the PC my main programs (the ones that cost the most money) are the Adobe line. Including Premiere 2.0 and Encore DVD 2.0 etc.

however they would not accept the files being sent over from the VCR (via Dazzle hardware) but Windows Movie Maker WOULD!

But WMM WOULD NOT burn a dvd and the file from WMM WOULD NOT import into the Adobe products so I imported it into ULead Video Studio 8.0 then rendered an ISO image to the hard drive, then imported that into Premiere for some editing, then into Encore for a nice menu and burning.

Its a conveluted process but the DVD (a 2hr movie) burned without a hitch in under 10 min! Likey closer to 7 or 8 min!

I was wondering if the G5 with Final Cut Pro would be able to accept the imput signal from Dazzle? (although I hope not to be converting to may VHS tapes)

best, M/
