PSP buying HELP dunno what to buy

Hello I have searched and searched and im just totaly confused.
I went out today and bought a PSP. It is firmware 1.71 but motherboard ta-082
So anyway after searching a lot I realised that you can't downgrade to 1.5 if you own this motherboard, so im going to take it back.
Now.. GAME in town has a preowned gigapack and since its preowned I assume its an older version. What letter am I idealy looking for on the box? and can I tell the motherboard without opening the box and checking to see if there is writing inside the UMD case?

The best thing you could do is buy one on EBAY. Look for firmware 1.5, type: firmware 1.5. I bought mine new on Ebay with a warranty and there was NO NEED TO FLASH. You avoid the chance of bricking your PSP, it's NEW, and it's 1.5.
And I got mine with a nice little package, duo sticks and two games, case...e.t.c. ohh and I got it in 3 days after ordering. YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT. IT'S THE BEEESSST RESOORT.

Thankyou, forgot to say I am in UK/EU (believe lettering is different)
If the one at the shop is not the firmware/motherboard that I need, i'll get from ebay, but can anyone answer my questions in regards to the one im looking at tomorrow?

OK im pretty sure if u have fw 1.71 u dont have a ta-082 mayB U MADE A MISTAKE AND MEANT TO WRIGHT 2.71 BUT if u have 1.71 (i never heard of ) u dunt have a ta-082

yes sorry it was 2.71 :p
the ta-081 have a new lil numbers on the inside of the UMD thing right? Is there any other way to check cause I doubt i can look inside there at the shop..

listen if you have a TA-082 firmware 2.71 keep it you can still play homebrew on it you need teh hen method thats all you can still downlaod your games and play no biggi !

Oh so if I go and buy a USB for the psp I can do that? (already have a 1gig memory card)
Is there any risk of bricking my psp by doing it because I could take it back as it is now...

nope if you have 1gig then it all good heres teh easy insatller http://www.sendspace.com/file/rdq25o extract to your memory card right now and put all your games (.cso and .iso ONLY) in the ISO folder and then go to photo and run HENC then play your games have fun man and nope no way of bricking 100%^ safe it doesnt rite to flash :)

Now I just need to wait until I can buy a usb cable tomorrow.. unless theres some way of copying files over wifi?

If all I want to do is play games? Why what else can I do :D
Oh.. I found a memory stick duo card slot in my laptop, just .. it wont recognise in linux so installing windows as we speak and i'll be able to put that thing on my memory card!

yeah then yu can have custom firmware adn try out osme homebrew but its no major biggi if you just want to play games and have no risk of bricking were as on the 1.5 there are alot of riscs and i think mainly for people hu like to just game

1.5 is just as safe as any other firmware version. unless you start messing with flash. if you're not then you're at no greater risk then a newer firmware version.

i no but with 1.5 you get to have more homrbrews than any other firmware so isn there even a lil bit more risk if you decide to use them?

no theres no risk running homebrew. like i said before the risk starts comin in when u mess with flash. if ur on 1.5 using homebrew that doesnt touch flash then its just as safe as a newer firmware version.

i no but things like pspersonalize messes with flash and stuff and you cant use that with other firmwares im just saying the homebrews apps that mess with flash, most of them are on 1.5

theres programs to change stuff in the flash for 2.71. as long as u dont touch flash theres no risk.
